Eternal Giroud: All the key stats from Milan’s draw against Salernitana

By Oliver Fisher -

It was a frustrating game for AC Milan at San Siro last night as they were held to a 1-1 draw by lowly Salernitana despite having taken the lead.

Giroud’s first-half header gave the Rossoneri the lead but Dia’s finish from deep inside the box while inexplicably unmarked was a set-back that Milan would ultimately not respond to as they missed out on the chance to go second. Below are the stats from the game, via the official website

➤ Each of Olivier Giroud’s three goals in Serie A in 2023 have been headers, the joint-most over the same period in Europe’s ‘top five’ leagues (three headed goals also for Victor Osimhen and Danilho Doekhi).

➤ Olivier Giroud is the oldest player to have scored at least eight goals in Europe’s ‘top five’ Leagues.

➤ Brahim Díaz has played his 100th game in Europe’s ‘top five’ Leagues.

➤ Milan have scored two goals from corners in 2023 in Serie A (Kalulu against Roma in January), one more than the whole of 2022 in the top-flight.

➤ Olivier Giroud has scored seven goals at home in Serie A this season, only Lautaro Martínez (eight) and Victor Osimhen (ten) have got more in the top-flight.

➤ Ismaël Bennacer has provided 10 assists in Serie A. Today’s was the Algerian’s second from a corner in the competition (the first was in April 2019 against Napoli).

➤ Alessandro Florenzi returned to play a Serie A fixture 195 days after the last time (30 August 2022 against Sassuolo).
