Even record and a first: All the key stats ahead of Napoli vs. Milan

Many are expecting Napoli-Milan to be a close affair, not just because of the situation in the standings, but also the record in this fixture in recent years.

With just eight games remaining of the season, we are well and truly in the finale. Massimiliano Allegri has made clear that everything could change in this period and that’s why tonight’s game against Napoli is so important for the team.

Just one point separates the two sides as things stand, which means a win for the home side would see them leapfrog the Rossoneri. A win for the latter, however, would result in a four-point cushion that could end up being crucial.

Below are the best stats ahead of the game, while we also have our usual pre-match preview with everything from teams news to opposition insight and a prediction.

Napoli vs. AC Milan: Key facts and stats

➤ In the last five Serie A seasons (from 2021/22 to the present), the balance of matches between Napoli and Milan is perfectly even, with four wins apiece and one draw. This follows a period in the previous 10 campaigns (between 2011/12 and 2020/21) where Napoli had lost only two of their 20 encounters against Milan (W10 D8).

➤ For the first time in Serie A history, Napoli (62) and Milan (63) will face each other having both played at least 30 top-flight matches and being separated by a maximum of one point in the table.

➤ The smallest gap between the two sides after at least the same number of games was previously two points (+2 for the Rossoneri in May 1936; +2 for the Partenopei on 12th July 2020): on both occasions, SSC Napoli remained unbeaten (W1 D1)

➤ A matches for the first time since a run of three wins between August 2016 and August 2018. Prior
to their most recent encounter at the Maradona, the two sides had drawn two and AC Milan had won three of their previous five home league meetings.

➤ Milan inflicted Napoli’s heaviest home defeat in Serie A in the last 25 years, a 4-0 loss on 2 April 2023, thanks to a brace from Rafael Leão and goals from Alexis Saelemaekers and Brahim Díaz.

➤ Napoli have won each of their last four Serie A matches and could record five consecutive victories
for the first time in this league campaign; the last time an Antonio Conte side achieved this in a single league season was a run of seven between December 2024 and January 2025.

➤ Milan have only suffered three defeats in Serie A this season (W18 D9 L3) and have only twice remained unbeaten in at least 28 of their first 31 top-flight games in a single campaign in the three points-for-a-win era: in 1995/96 (W19 D10) and 2003/04 (W23 D7).

➤ Milan (14) and Napoli (12) are the two teams who have gained the most points from losing positions in Serie A this season. Furthermore, AC Milan have gained the most points thanks to goals scored after the 75th minute (12), while SSC Napoli have gained the most points from goals scored after the 80th minute (nine).

➤ Following his penalty goal in the reverse fixture, Milan could become the first team against whom Kevin De Bruyne has scored more than one goal in Serie A. Furthermore, if he scores, he would become only the second midfielder to reach 100 goals in Europe’s five big leagues since his debut (99 goals so far, since 2012/13), after Marco Reus (120).
