Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed that Santiago Gimenez will miss a hefty chunk of the second half of the season, having undergone surgery to fix his ankle problem.
After several weeks of trying to recover from his ankle injury, Gimenez along with the medical staff eventually made the decision to undergo surgery instead. Since conservative therapy didn’t yield the desired results, it was the only way to get rid of the issue once and for all.

However, surgery also means a much longer absence, which is something Allegri confirmed during his Cagliari-Milan press conference earlier today. Indeed, when asked about the players at his disposal, he stated that Gimenez will be out for three to four months.
“Gimenez will be out for 3-4 months, Füllkrug has arrived and will help us out. Right now, I’m happy with the squad I have available, but we need to recover everyone. We are doing reasonably well, but the points we have now aren’t enough to achieve any goals,” he stated.
The addition of Niclas Füllkrug should help Allegri a little, even if that depends on the German’s form a lot, but the timing isn’t great regardless. Not to mention that if it takes four months, there will only be a few games left of the season for the Mexican to feature in.

They should have pulled the trigger on this procedure a lot sooner. imo
AC Milan’s medical staff are utterly incompetent. They botched the initial injury that Leão suffered in the Bari game too; said it was nothing, no muscle lesion, and would heal in a week or so; it ended up being a true muscle injury and took what, if I’m not mistaken, a month and a half?
Santi was playing with chronic pain and ankle issues that can explain why he had trouble with first touch and with shooting accuracy. Still, the Milan medical staff undertreated it, until Santi himself stepped in and consulted a famous Dutch surgeon who then operated on him immediately.
Regarding Gimenez, there is such a thing as conservative treatment. Not everything requires an operation straightaway. From what I understand, he was having ankle issues at PSV already.
Were they like this Since van basten era? He also played with his injured leg.
Probably wise to just write off this season, have him back in the summer as second choice no9 for next year and see how he gets on from there.
