Tuttosport: Allegri considering three changes as Saelemaekers’ injury halts plans

Alexis Saelemaekers’ injury may cause AC Milan to change their system against Fiorentina this weekend; Massimiliano Allegri is thinking.

Milan have left the international window looking a bit bruised, and there is still a handful of games and players left to watch. So, there is a possibility that further assessments will have to be made. Of course, the hope is that that is not the case.

Regardless of this, the Rossoneri are competing with one of the biggest issues in the squad currently, and Allegri is left questioning a decision.

Allegri stuck?

Saelemaekers, as reports have already confirmed, is awaiting a scan to see the extent of his muscle strain. He may only miss two games, but his importance is unmatched in the team, arguably. So, a change would have to be made.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) report that three possibilities are being considered. The first would see Zachary Athekame start in the Belgian’s place, but the question Allegri has is, is he ready to start?

If he deems that he is not, the Italian would be forced to change his system. A 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3 seems most likely, with Christian Pulisic moving back to the right. If it were the latter, Rafael Leao could return to the starting XI if he is ready.

  1. It’d be better to stick to the formation that’s working.

The club shouldn’t have signed Athekame if he can’t be trusted to fill in.

    I presume he’ll start.

  2. Milan lack quality at LB and RB. Not sure why they decided to sell Theo and Jimenez if they weren’t willing to spend the money to sign quality replacement. Estupinan and Athekame are both not good enough for Milan level. Smh

    1. Because for Allegri, character and effort matter more than pure talent. Theo had become a problem and Jimenez apparently shows up late to 3 training sessions and so got shown the door. Let’s note it’s the author of this article wondering if Athekeme is ready, not the club.

  3. I’ll say it for reference sake, as this team stands now and in terms of effort and skill, Alexis Saelemaekers is more important to this team than Leao at the moment. You can wail and agure but facts doesn’t care if you do.

  4. Athekame havent looked bad when hes come on. Vs Fiorentina and Pisa he should suffice. Will offer less offensively but solid defensively.

Hopefully Sallad is back against Atalanta and Roma
