AC Milan’s stance on Yunus Musah has altered and the club are no long as open to the idea of selling him, a report claims.
Sky reported late last night that Napoli are still keen on signing Musah. Aurelio De Laurentiis’ club maintained contact with Milan and could make another attempt to sign the American midfielder, despite Nottingham Forest also now showing interest him.
Milan’s stance seemed to be clear from Igli Tare’s comments a few weeks ago. The new sporting director was asked about the rumours that multiple midfield signings could arrive, and that the ex-Valencia man could be sold.
“I think Musah is an excellent player, but we are looking for players with different characteristics. We are looking for a defensive-midfielder that can play in a three-man midfield: Musah does not have these characteristics.”

‘Create a project around Musah’
Now, Matteo Moretto has provided an update on what the current situation is regarding Musah, painting a different picture from a few weeks ago.
“Things have changed with Musah too. He’s convincing Allegri, who believes he can work well with the player in the future, and believes he can create a project around Musah,” he said (via MilanNews).
“So far, I don’t see Napoli making a strong comeback for Musah, but if any team were to make an offer for Musah, I’m told that €25m wouldn’t even be enough. Milan are seriously considering keeping Musah for next season as well.”

Screw you Allegri
Gratuliere dir zu diesem Kommentar!
I think the one screwed here is you for having no brains.
Clearly you know more than the coach
Only way i can see this working is by giving him more freedom in this new midfield. If we get a way to do that, he may convince someone to pay more for him in the future
Allegri, Buy adam obert
Allegri sees differently, apparently. Maybe Allegri knows what he is talking about.
I respect the opinion but ain’t our midfield getting too crowded?
Conte wants Musah,
Allegri wants to keep Musah.
🤔
Put the kid in one position, let him play in that one position consistently, don’t play him in 6 different positions in 6 consecutive games and he will be a very useful player.
Exactly, I have been emphasising this, he should be relieved of defensive duties. Good ball carrier and can dribble, he’s athletic but cannot defend and being forced to defend.
Watching him play, a good coach can easily see there’s a player in there, just too raw.
Relived from defensive duties? Are we talking about Maradonna? Defense is the kids best attribute after his physicalty. He had all the potential to be another Kessie for us, but he’s lack of football brain and positional discipline is what’s keeping him back. Allegri might be just the guy to help him repair these deficiencies, but so far Mussah has shown us that he’s not at the level we need. He had enough chances in his so-called “best position”, and we didn’t see much
this, 100%
you have either technical skills, explosive speed and change in pace or you don’t… just like Adli will never have Musah’s physical traits, Musah will never become Pulisic
He is a physical player, but being wrongly used defensively.
RLC is physical but not a defensive midfielder.
Musah is a ball carrying midfielder.
There is no way any player in modern football is going to show his value when he is never in the same position from one game to the next. no other player in this team has moved around as much. Why do you think several clubs are after him? Fonseca and Conceicao, were completely useless with low coaching IQ. Allegri sees, what Conte and Forest sees…a potentially solid player.
The kid can’t shoot and has 0 creativity or vision.
While shooting can be improved, creativity and vision are some of those things that you either have or you don’t.
So if you don’t want him to defend, what is he supposed to do ?
Yunus Musah needs to understand that football =/= dribbling all the time. Keep it simple, tackle or bully the opposition, win the ball and pass it to the nearest teammate or clear it.
I hope you have your coaching badge.
Conte knows nothing about football it seems.
The player with 0 of everything is generating interests from even the EPL, then maybe, just maybe something is wrong somewhere.
I’m not saying he has 0 in everything, but you’re making him look like he somehow should be relieved of defensive duties to do what exactly ? Look at what happens each time he has the ball in his feet. How many goals ? Good shots ?… Look at how many goals we conceded because he decided it’s a good idea to dribble.
Conte wanting him doesn’t mean that he is somehow a creative player, and none of the EPL teams that took interest in him made an offer so far.
Amen
But surely Allegri and Conte don’t know as much about football as the experts in this comment section…
They all think he is “trash”, he must be trash.
“Put the kid in one position, let him play in that one position consistently, don’t play him in 6 different positions in 6 consecutive games and he will be a very useful player.”
Isn’t it fascinating that this kid played under Gracia, under Voro, under Bordalás, under Gattuso, under Pioli, under Fonseca, under Conceição and also under Hudson and finally Pochettino for pretty much half a decade now and yet we still don’t have a consensus on where or how to field him ? Maybe at some point it’s him who should be questionned.
It shouldn’t be that hard to field a player who can’t shoot or pass, you can already start by crossing out the options and yet here we are.
With this comment you are further proving my point about the lack of a stable environment Musah had to deal with not only position wise on the pitch but also who he was coached by.
You just listed names of 9 different coaches who coached a player who is only 22 years old. If that doesn’t tell you that Musah never had any stability in his career I don’t know what other proof you need.
He was under Gracia for an entire season, Bordalás for an entire season and Gattuso for an entire season. That’s not particularly instable.
In the US national team, he was under Berhalter for 2 consecutive years and 3 years in total under him.
If 3 coaches who each had a player for an entire season still don’t know where or how to start him, I think it’s obvious that something is wrong.
We’re not talking about Gullit here, we’re talking about a physical monster who can’t shoot or pass and who is obsessed with dribbling.
He plays nowhere on the left flank, clearly not a striker, clearly not a central defender, clearly not a creative midfielder, failed as a right winger and failed as right back. By just crossing those out, it should be more or less clear where he can start or IF he can start.
He is 22 years old and been coached by 9 different coaches.
Thats almost 2 coaches per season since he turned pro.
But thats apparently not particularly instable because he had a coach for a year when he was 18 or 19?
He is on his 4th Milan coach.
That’s almost 2 coaches per season because you included the NT but he still had the same coach in 4 different seasons (2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24). Voro barely coached Valencia for a month, while Hudson, Berthaler and Pochettino are NT coaches.
Outside of Voro and up until Fonseca, each one of the club coaches I named had an entire season and 30+ games to figure him out and yet each season the new coach seems back to the drafting board.
Didn’t cross your mind that perhaps one of the reasons why he is so difficult is because he never shown anything particularly great in any of the positions he was tried in. And it’s not like he shown any goalscoring instinct (like Reijnders) to prompt a coach to use him in a more advanced position or any creativity/passing ability to give him a creative role.
LOL there times he played 4 positions in a single game!
I am 100% in agreement with you.
Like @AA I simply wonder where all these guys are gonna play.
Jashari, Ricci, Mordric – are the cream
RLC – Allegri likes him, minimum solid squad
Fofana – we saw flashes
Probably enough there so
Musah – now Allegri sees he should be included
Bondo – we like him enough to get him a development loan
Adli/Bennacer – on the way out
I’m happy the purse strings have loosened and that we have Tare/Allegri to supervise where we invest but I don’t want to end up back in FIFA jail any time soon.
Yup
It wont change much, Musah is technically and physically gifted kid, but his awareness is none existent, he is doomed to be a liability in possession and I don’t really believe it will improve, this is basics you learn as a child.
A manager with a lot of silverware knowing more than randoms in a Milan site? That is a based opinion
I am reminded of the time Allegri was sure De Sciligio is a decent player. There are countless other examples. Coach knows better than anyone else, but people are entitled to their own opinion
Yikes !
This is good news. Musah is a good backup player. I was never in favour of letting him go. With good training he can become very very useful to the team.
“but if any team were to make an offer for Musah, I’m told that €25m wouldn’t even be enough”
OMG what did i just read??
So I guess Bondo will be loaned out then?
Do the Musah lovers actually watch the games? He single-handedly cost us CL by getting a stupid red card. He was playing in the midfield under Conceciao and was horrible. Outside of dribbling and running hard, he offers nothing. Can’t pass, can’t shoot and has the football IQ of a dog. He’s not even a starter for the US national team. Be honest, is he better than Modric Jashari Ricci RLC or Fofana? And managers have been wrong about players many times. Allegri also let Pirlo walk in 2011, did you fake fans forget?
😀 I agree here even though I would argue that some dogs has a better football iq than Musah just as well as some dogs can ride a skateboard better than some humans.
just one amongst many examples 😛
What you say is observably true from last season. I disagree on environment and situation.
He is very young. He came up through Arsenal so he should have a higher football IQ. Played at Valencia, same thing he should be farther along.
You cannot deny his physical gifts though. Such often stunt the cerebral development. Basically he was so beyond others physically he didn’t develop tactically. It’s natural for a human to lean into a strength rather than work a weakness.
Okay so he has Pioli who uses him everywhere for everything. Then the Portuguese Pair blow through and levels drop everywhere.
Now Allegri comes in and brings a system and the willingness/ability to coach it. He sees a headless chicken and says, “Don’t need him”.
But he also instructs so Musah can play opposition in training. Musah picks up things. He starts to shape his physical gifts with mental effort.
Allegri sees this growth and says, “we need to watch this kid”
The mental stuff is always quicker to pick up than the physical I’d you live the life.
I hope this is what happened.
It could also be Allegri sh|thousery in conjunction with Tare to drive up the price.
Season starts soon. Would rather have a guy we already paid for break out than buy another at this point.
I assume this was a reply for Kaka as it would make more sense but I at least never has argued that he doesn’t have any good physical qualities but his football skills blows and doesn’t see him becoming anything great. Besides of that even if he has played various positions he hasn’t done any of them well so I really doesn’t buy that as an excuse for him. I do Nevertheless reckon that a team is like a watch where every little cog has its purpose but if we actually are getting offers of around 25 mil for him then I certainly would listen to them as we can do far better with less money.
Allegri didn’t let Pirlo walk in 2011 but Galliani and Milan management did because they refused to offer him longer than a 1 year contract. They wanted to go young but they continue signing older players after the let Pirlo walk for nothing.
“My adventure with Milan didn’t end as I dreamed, I hoped I could stay and still be useful. When I realised that I was no longer seen as an important player, I didn’t hesitate to change teams. At that time there was a policy whereby those over 30 were only offered a one-year contract. I was still young and unable to find an agreement I went in another direction.”
Mike also single handedly cost Milan games last year. Is he trash?
First off there are no Musah lovers. Just sensible evaluations of a player. and yes, I’ve seen most of Milan games and I’m in the Conte, Allegri, Nottingham Forest and West Ham…Decent player with potential to be much better…what camp are you in? the Sempre Milan Echo chamber of nonsense? did you watch the Madrid Game he and Emerson, shut down the best left sided player in world football. He was immediately moved to a different position after that. clearly YOU don’t watch the games.
do you actually think that red card cost Milan that game? The team were clueless, the coaching tactics, clueless, the defense with Gabbia at the heart of it was useless. Milan could have played with 12 men and not qualified.
Yes, it was 10 vs 11, derp. His red card was proof of his IQ
Theo singlehandedly got us knocked out of the Champions League by getting sent off with two even more ridiculous yellows.
Yes, and he’s gone now. So Musah should follow him.
So they’ll probably sell him on January lol
Allegri being like a makeup artist “I can make anyone look like a million bucks” … and indeed, Mussah is the biggest challenge in that regard
🤣🤣🤣
Terrible mistake
Sell
Him
Please
We have three new midfielders who will start. Us Musah going to be a bench player? We need to sell someone.
Jashari
Modric
Ricci
RLC
Fofana
Musah
That is the midfield.
What project Alegri? With players you have now, you cant be at first 4 places. Deffense same like last year, midfiled we dont know but i dont think will be bigger progress, forward is now disaster. I realy dont know about what project he think.
Its project: we all deffend and if at some way score that is great??
“Midfield we don’t know”?
Bro we know midfield now.
A Ballon Dor Winner few years ago/ 13 times Croatian Footballer of the Year in MODRIC,
A League MVP last year in JASHARI (lower quality league but still a fully professional and top league of a European Country) and
A tried, tested and coveted midfielder in Ricci. But still we don’t know the midfield as per you.
I will tell you what we don’t know. Actually we don’t know what are mixing in your smokes. What is that dried stuff. Can you parcel it? Courier it?
Now….With “defend and somehow score” tactics you said, Allegri has taken teams to Champions League finals.
Is AC Milan competing in a fashion show that always beauty will matter? Is Serie A a fashion show? I know ot as a place where people play football for POINTS.
POINTS THAT NEEDS EARNING IRRESPECTIVE OF BEAUTIFUL OR BEASTLY FOOTBALL.
So my friend, please stop mixing whatever you do in your smokes and if you can parcel me some.
Those teams “he took” to the CL finals had Pirlo, Chiellini, Bonucci, Buffon, and many more top top players. Then, when all those top players left, what did he do?
I for one am extremely pleased in the acquisitions made in our midfield. About Musah he is gifted physically but the red card given for pulling an injured opposing player by his arm was inexcusable. He panics when he has the ball and is surrounded by the opposition. His inclusion in this year’s team should not prevent Milan from qualifying for next year’s CL or competing against Napoli but we need to start thinking about Modric’s replacement now and if we can get $30M or more for him then he must be sold even if it is to a Serie A team. Missing pieces to a “dominant” squad are RB and Modric’s replacement.
I’m torn on Musah. His physical abilities and his flashes of ability are undeniable, and when Allegri and Conte are both chasing him and teams from the EPL are inquiring about him, that’s hard to discount. It’s also fair to point-out that the poor kid has been pulled towards all eight points of the compass regarding position and coaching changes, often with little actual coaching.
My biggest concern is that, if you go all the way back to his U14 and U15 days, when he was still in the England setup, he was the TEAM CAPTAIN, ahead of the likes of Sancho and Bellingham. Only three years later, he’d dropped off England’s radar and decided to make his one time switch to the USMNT. Clearly, his physical ability has been obvious since childhood, so why is it that Bellingham is at Real Madrid and Sancho is at United (for the moment), but Valencia quit on Musah and it’s debatable whether we’ll keep him or not?
This entire article sounds like an attempt to inflate his price before selling him to an EPL side, in my opinion. Otherwise, why include the “25M might not be enough” line?
Best regards, all
His rare flashes of ability are dwarfed by his many flashes of failure. Sure, he’s been misused and even abused by different head coaches, but even in that situation, someone with true potential (even when still very young) would have shown more flashes of ability than flashes of failure.

Yep, this is either a completely baseless rumor started by ONE journalist with too much time in his hands and a need to get clicks (with his take now being repeated by others) with no evidence/proof that this is actually what Allegri wants, or it is a plot by Milan to increase his price.
People say that Conte wants him… still, we aren’t seeing a real offer from Napoli for him at this time, one confirmed by club officials rather than by tabloid journalists. The one they did apparently consider at the beginning of the window, was withdrawn.
So, Nottingham Forest want him? Show me the money.
The ONE verifiable statement by a club official was Tare saying that Musah does not have the characteristics that fit Milan’s needs at this time.
I think the much more likely reality is:
1) Tare made that statement in order to foster interest by other clubs; not many would inquire if it seemed like the player was solidly in Milan’s plans for this season. So, Tare said that, to get the ball going.
2) To counter the devaluation of that statement, now an interest in Musah by Allegri is being rumored (while not officially confirmed, so that suitors won’t be discouraged and won’t immediately move to other targets). It’s interesting that the denial of a place for him at Milan came out of an actual club official while this alleged interest by Allegri came out of an unconfirmed rumor issued by a journalist. Maybe Milan made it so that the rumor would be issued, but without officially confirming it.
3) The club will ultimately sell Musah to the highest bidder, even if a lowball offer is the only one that will arrive, by the end of the transfer window.
We currently have no fewer than 10 midfielders in our roster (Modric, Ricci, Jashari, Fofana, RLC, Puli (who on occasion plays as CAM), Adli, Bennacer, Bondo, and Musah). We obviously don’t need 10 to play only one meaningful competition this season, and while we are trying to unload Isma and Adli and loan out Bondo, neither of these moves have occurred yet. Musah is arguably the worst of the ten. It makes zero sense to keep him.
———
In the near past we saw incompetent managers making lots of senseless decisions (such as, shipping out Kalulu to a rival and then spending more on Emerson Royal to replace him). But this time we all hope that with Tare and Allegri, the senseless decisions will be rarer, so, I don’t really see this particularly senseless one being made. Or so I hope, at least.
Amen, Luigi. Amen. You said what needed to be said. Spot on.
We have waited for too long for Musah to unleash his supposed potential. Instead, we saw failure after failure. Even though he is young, when there is true potential usually we see glimpses of it. In his case, we’ve seen nothing, despite many opportunities.
I don’t really believe that Allegri wants to keep him. Either this is just tabloid fodder, or Allegri is just maneuvering so that Musah’s value in the eyes of scouts goes up, for Milan to successfully make some money out of him by the end of the transfer window.
It’s not a question of fans here in a comment section of a website knowing more than Allegri. It’s a question of not believing that there is reality behind this report that Allegri wants to keep him. Until I hear Allegri going live on TV and saying “I really very much like Musah and absolutely want to keep him” I won’t believe it. For now it’s just one journalist saying that Allegri wants him; then others like this site are merely repeating what the guy said. For me, this is just a baseless rumor.
Even if Allegri were to say something like this in a verifiable manner, I’d still hypothesize that it was a plot to up Musah’s price.
Because, see, this makes no sense whatsoever. We have just hired 3 midfielders, and Allegri, in a more believable way, has said that he likes RLC. There is also Fofana. That’s five reliable midfielders, not to forget that Pulisic can also play CAM. We also haven’t shipped out yet Isma and Adli (and maybe won’t be able to do that) or loaned Bondo. So we have 10 midfielders on roster, of which 9 arguably are better than Musah (some by a lot, some by a little). Why on Earth we’d still need Musah??? Wasn’t it said that we need to trim the roster? Why would we need 10 midfielders to play in only one meaningful competition, this season?
My conclusion is that it is pretty much impossible that Milan won’t sell Musah if a solid offer arrives.
At the end, it seems the new season will start with Musah, Tomori and RLC in the squad, three players that i personally think should be let go (RLC and Tomori are 2 of the best paid players in the team by the way). It should definetely be their last season to prove that they are worth of keeping for future seasons, if this season they don’t perform well, they should be sold next summer, and by that time Milan won’t be able to get much for them; both RLC and Tomori will be with just one more year left in their contracts (both end their contracts in 2027), RLC will be 30 years old and Tomori 28, and their Market Value (per Transfermarkt) at the moment is 10 M and 20 M respectively, so next summer if they fail to impress this season and Milan decides to sell both, maybe 15 M income for both is what Milan could get (5 M for RLC and 10 M for Tomori). And with Musah, he will still have 2 years left in his contract (it ends in 2028), and at the moment his MV is 20 M, if Milan could sell him by that amount by next summer, then we are looking at maybe getting a total of 35 M for the sale of these 3 players, and Milan would be needing minimum 1 CB, because the team will have Gabbia, Thiaw, and Pavlovic, and this coming season actually should be also last opportunity to Thiaw and Pavlovic, if they also don’t perform this season, then what a problem the club will have by having to renew completely the CBs; and in midfield, if both Musah and RLC are to be sold next summer, the club will have Jashari, Ricci, Fofana… and that’s about it, because Modric even if he does really well this season, he will most likely be offered one more year but that should be his last, and i don’t think it can be expected for Modric to be a 90 min player this season, and even less next season if he continues; and then Bondo is still a mistery of what his performance will be. So, it is to be seen how Tomori, RLC and Musah perform this season, and could be definetely a challenge next summer to sell the 3 of them and look for reinforcements.
If you didn’t see this coming….
i hope these are all lies trying to get a 30m offer for him lol
Milan is still a source of jokes hahah into next season
At the end, Milan is a DEI club from an american company 🙂
There is something that allegri & conte see in YM that fan cannot see. In my opinion just keep YM for atleast 1 season under allegri, dont give him easily to direct rival like napoli.
