Massimiliano Allegri has provided a defence of Christopher Nkunku and Santiago Gimenez as they continue to be the subject of criticism.
Gimenez and Nkunku have plenty in common: they both signed this year for over €30m, both arrived hoping to help fix Milan’s attacking issues and both are yet to score a league goal this season, with only one goal each in the Coppa Italia.

This has led to calls for Milan to cash in on the Mexican and there have even been rumours about a mid-season exit for the Frenchman too. However, Allegri has always been one to stick up for his players in the media, and today was no different in his pre-match press conference.
On Nkunku, he stated: “Forget about the investment. He has extraordinary technical qualities, he also arrived late. He had a good game at home against Lazio, especially in the decisive moments.
“He also has to be convinced that he can be decisive. I’m convinced that he’ll do well. And maybe tomorrow he can score a goal.”
And on Santiago Gimenez, he added: “Santiago is working hard. We hope to have him back during the week. His ankle is fine. We need him. He hasn’t scored much, even though he’s come close.
“He’s a reliable player, he’s worked a lot for this team, he’s had a lot of chances. He’s had three goals ruled out by an inch. He scored a lot for Feyenoord, it’s not that he’s unlearned how to score.

Allegri is a sensible coach…Roma lose today! Good result for Milan.
Imagine if you had 4 players competing for striker position and you say 2 of them are bad and talk bad about them publicly. We had loser “managers” like this last season. 2 of them.
Is there any one at ac milan that can sign a centre
Forward that can stick the ball in the net because these two are a total waste of time they just have not got the killer instinct .
Allegri will never throw anyone under the bus. But the fact that he’s having to use two up front and use Leao as a 9 tells you everything about where the club is in terms of having a quality 9.
Allegri needs a 9 worth a d@mn so he can switch to a 343 and create a more potent attack.
Agree
343 would be best with this crop but I think Allegri’s more worried about our defensive display, hence the 352
True but I am just concerned that our offensive output is unsustainable. 1-0 can go the other way too as we saw with Lazio.
4-3-3 would be the long term goal id imagine. Given that we are well stocked in midfield. Will be optimal to play 3 midfielders.
However without a no.9 and the emergence of Alexis as an effective outlet at RWB, makes sense we stick to 3-5-2 for now.
Lets see in summer. Im not sure Lewandowski is the answer, am a massive fan of his for the last decade but father time catches up eventually.
25% of all games of Allegri as a manager ended 1-0. All time. When he won his first title in 10/11 he had 10 games won by 1 goal margin, and 8 of them 1-0. That is with Ibrahimovic, Ronaldinho, Pirlo, Pato in top form. ?? It is like writing that you think the ball isn’t round. I’ve read the same thing from multiple people. WTF do you expect? If you watched Serie A for the past 15 years you know this is expected…
Milan has one 9 in the squad…Gimenez, and he is awful. Allegri is making due with what he has…Meanwhile Hojlund adds 2 more to his tally. sigh.
Hoijlunds tally was 2
Nope, he has 4 goals in Seria A and 4 goals in CL, and 2 assists in Seria A. Total, 15 matches, 6 goals and 2 assists.
Thank f**k we didn’t get him after he was a failure in ManU.
Yeah so his tally was 2 league goals before yesterday
Sell both and buy Osihmen
A long time ago I was really hoping for Osihmen. Would have been perfect for us. Even Lukaku would hv been a proper optio. Sigh
I have said it, and I’ll keep saying it. It is difficult to he a good 9, and even the good ones flops (Our Gimenez, Isak in Liverpool, zirkzee was supposed to be good until he went to Man U) the very good ones are damn expensive (Halaand, Harry kane, Osimhen…)
The best I think we can do is hope that Gimenez really recover from his ankle problem, bring back Carmada instead of him wasting in Lecce that don’t know how to find their striker.
Another possibility is to get Kean, but he my not want to abandon his teammate in the middle of the season, of which loyalty wise is reasonable.
Osimhen goes nowhere except for a potential champions league club winner
