Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed that Luka Modric won’t make it back for the final game of the season, despite some reports suggesting otherwise.
It was in the game against Juventus that Modric suffered a massive blow, following a clash of heads with Manuel Locatelli. It was confirmed the day after that it was a fractured cheekbone, which required the veteran to undergo surgery.

Immediately, it was reported that the season was over for Modric and Milan’s official statement even highlighted that he would now prepare for the World Cup instead. Still, at the end of last week, Gazzetta dello Sport suggested that he could return for the last game, wearing a protective mask.
This prompted a question for Allegri during today’s press conference ahead of Milan-Atalanta. However, the gaffer squashed our hopes by saying that an early return is impossible, even for someone with the mentality and work ethic of Modric.
“Even if Modric comes to Milanello to work, it’s almost impossible that he’ll be on the pitch on for the final game,” he stated.
Let’s hope he recovers well in time for the World Cup, at least, so he can head into the big tournament with some peace of mind.
