Allegri and Giuntoli respond to Pioli’s suggestion Juventus are title favourites

Juventus head coach Max Allegri and sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli have both suggested that there is more pressure on AC Milan than them to win the Scudetto.

There is a bit of a game being played in the media at the moment whereby the managers from each of the title contenders are suggesting that the other teams could and should be the favourites to win it.

Stefano Pioli joined in with it yesterday as he claimed that Juventus are the team who should be considered as frontrunners in the Scudetto race because of their lack of European football which ‘adds points’.

Giuntoli – the sporting director of Juve – spoke to La Repubblica about where Juve currently are and he claimed their project is behind Milan’s.

“We think about the medium distance, but setting a deadline also means creating a limit, and the limits are for the mediocre. There is a precise program shared by the CEO Scanavino, by Allegri, by me and by Manna: returning to the Champions League,” he said (via PianetaMilan).

“We need it also to have a showcase in which our young people can grow, because they must be able to compete with the best in Europe.

“For our stated objective, the rivals are Atalanta, Fiorentina, Lazio, Roma. Then there are Napoli, Milan and Inter who are ahead of us, because their project started much earlier.”

Meanwhile, Allegri knows that the match against Atalanta is an important test to understand the strength of his team and he was asked about the comments Pioli made.

“The table is of little importance now, even if being between in the top four gives self-esteem, the team is growing,” he said.

“Pioli says we are favourites? It’s not a mathematical equation whoever does not play in Europe are favourites as Pioli said, the numbers of recent years demonstrate it.”
