Massimiliano Allegri has responded to the notion that AC Milan are merely lucky to be second in the league, labelling it as ‘disrespectful’ to everyone who works at the club.
As expected when Allegri penned the contract at the end of May, Milan haven’t always put on a great show on the pitch this season. On the other hand, they have clinched points in 19 consecutive games, resulting in a total of 43 points after 20 games.

It goes without saying that you have to be doing something right to reach that point, but there has still been a lot of criticism towards Allegri (mainly from opponents) and his style of play. Lucky has been a keyword in those narratives, which the manager has now responded too.
Allegri puts his foot down
During his press conference earlier today, on the eve of Milan-Lecce, Allegri was asked what he thinks about the comments suggesting that the Rossoneri are just lucky. He provided a strong response, labelling those comments as disrespectful.
“Luck is a part of life: the more we seek it out, the better. I think it’s disrespectful to everyone who works at Milan, with whom we are achieving some great results. We mustn’t lose sight of the end goal, knowing we have to work hard and have the humility to work within our own limits.
“Fabregas is a young coach, but he’s achieved a lot, leading Como to a high position: he will have a very good career, and it’s difficult to talk about matches with ‘what ifs’. They played very well, but we played better in the second half,” he stated.
Considering the first half we played against Como I think its more than reasonable to talk about luck as we could and should have been down with maybe 3-4 goals from what I can currently recollect of chances. When that is said luck often also follows winners and its also part of the game, sometimes in our favor and other times in the oppositions favor. Besides of that Maignan also had a saying in keeping us in the game so not entirely pure luck either.
Allegri wasn’t my choice before the start of the season but I do nevertheless think he is doing a fine job as of now even though it will be crucial for us to also start beating the smaller teams more consistently. If that happens and we can avoid too lengthy injuries going forward then I see no reason why we can’t be in the Scudetto fight until the end of the season.
When another team misses as shot it’s luck. When Milan miss it’s because they suck? Luck is balanced and Milan have had their games where they create the vast majority of chances but drop points. One makes their own luck in footy
It’s funny, but Fofana has gone 0 for the season and CP missed two last week, I don’t remember anyone calling that bad luck. Why is it good luck when other teams miss? It’s all just football and Milan is good at it.
This alone show that there is no respect to Milan especially from mid and relegation teams.
They feel they can defeat us.
It a high time Milan need to scare all this learners who want to use us and grow.

Even back in the day when Berlusconi owned his own Media Corp, Milan was still disrespected in the papers.

Someone to remind Fabregas that football is a game of 90+ minutes and you can win or lose within 5 minutes even if salis initially leading.

In Fabregas’ defense, he did acknowledge that it is hard to beat Milan because we have some brilliant players who make a difference.
Yes, they did dominate extensively the first half – like Allegri said, not as much the second half – and they did have more possession and more shots.
But it’s not just “luck.” We happen to have a brilliant goalkeeper, and they do not. Goalkeepers are also part of the 11 players. We happen to have a world class midfielder called Rabiot, and they do not. He constructed 3 goals.
Having a zillion futile attempts and then conceding 3 goals, it’s not just being unlucky. It’s actually… conceding more than you score. Possession doesn’t count. Attempts don’t count. What counts is goals.
Besides, this thing of luck tends to even up in a long season. Sometimes we are lucky, sometimes the opponents are lucky. Still, we are 9 points ahead of Como, and we have 42 points out of 20 games. That’s not luck. In a competitive league like Serie A, achieving and maintaining an average of more than two earned points per game is a lot more skill than luck.
See, we shot 33 times against Genoa; only one went in, and we dropped 2 points. We were unlucky.
This time we shot 8 times… but 3 went in, and all 3 came out of very beautiful plays that were out of skills and individual brilliance, not luck.
The only really unlucky shot Como had, was Nico Paz’ crossbar hit that had Mike beaten but hit the woodwork rather than the net. Still, as impressive as woodwork hits are, they are still listed as misses and off-target.
Because the other good shots they had, Da Cunha’s, a couple of others by Nico Paz, etc., were stopped by Mike Maignan and that’s skill, not luck. Maignan saved 8 shots in that game, 3 of them being phenomenal, 3 rather decent, and 2 easier.
If Fabregas wants to beat us, he should better get a Mike Maignan-like goalkeeper and a Rabiot-like midfielder. That part has nothing to do with luck.
Still unbeaten in the league after that ‘bad luck’ lost againts Cremonese in the opener is not a luck.
