Massimiliano Allegri has once again stressed that a Champions League spot is AC Milan’s aim for the season, and revealed that he didn’t make any new year wishes.
Many didn’t consider Milan as contenders for the title in 2025-26 given that they finished in eighth place last season. However, with 35 points amassed in 16 games so far, they are only one point off city rivals Inter in top spot and are dreaming of a second star.

Admittedly, there are question marks about how well equipped the squad is to sustain the Scudetto mission, but there is arguably nobody better to have at the helm than Allegri, when it comes to getting a lot out of a little at least.
Allegri spoke to the reporters present at Milanello on Thursday for his pre-match press conference on the eve of the game. You can read it in full on our website, while below are a couple of interesting questions and responses regarding the aims for 2026.
What wish did you make for the new year?
“Honestly, I struggled to even get to midnight. I fell asleep at 10pm and woke up at 11:30pm. We had to prepare for this morning’s match. There are no dreams: we need to focus on our goals. Keep our feet on the ground and keep our balance.
“Right now, there are five teams competing for four spots, but Como and Bologna are doing well behind them, as are Lazio and Atalanta. And winning games is always difficult, and tomorrow will be no different. It will be a tough match. We need to stay in the game mentally.”
Would you be truly happy in June with a fourth-place finish?
“The important thing is to get to June and do our best. I always say that Milan should play in the Champions League every year. We must have the conviction to aim for the highest possible result. Only then can you achieve the best.
“The league is simple: ultimately, the best team wins. I’m not saying I’ll be happy, but we would have achieved a significant result. That doesn’t mean we don’t have the ambition to reach the highest possible result.”
allegri is right , this squad on paper is really not enough to win the scudetto, but judging by all the performances – pulisic stepped up to be the unlikely striker, leao didnt flop at striker , modric is heavily relied and academy lwb bart worked out . to take the squad frooom 9th to 2nd is crazy enough since the backline is still same and other players. however individual performance and the situation i feel like now , the players will 100% feel like theyre the favourates to win but allegri would know more
