GdS: Allegri persists with Leao-Pulisic partnership vs. Juventus – the hope for this weekend

This weekend, Massimiliano Allegri has a tough decision to make regarding his strikers. However, he will again choose the AC Milan stars and hope.

It has not been a season for the stars. Instead, the Milan season has been defined by those who have stepped up. Once again, the Rossoneri have fallen back into the hole of not having an out-and-out MVP of the season, or at least not an expected one.

Through injury or not, Pulisic has faded, as Leao did after his fantastic run before. Neither are putting up the numbers that are expected of them, let alone required from them.

Allegri selects stars again

Despite their faults, Allegri will persist with them leading the line against Juventus this weekend. The Italian’s hands are tied somewhat. His options are not vast and Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes that it is a ‘hope’ that they will improve.

Both are experiencing a goal drought, but confidence is low in their alternatives. It is certainly not a good position to be in and it is a factor in the summer mercato wishes for a new striker.

If there was ever a time to break their droughts and start to perform together, it would be now.

  1. Mark my words. Allegri will instruct his wingbacks to stay home defensively. Leaving Pulisic and Laeo isolated to try to break down a 4 man back line with 2 guys, and everyone will come here and whine after a 0-0 tie that our attackers suck. No one can score if you don’t get at least 4 players in the box when attacking.

    1. That’s the issue. When I watch the forwards they have few options offensively. Few players making runs and as the build up is so slow defenses are set. A player is not going to be able to individually breakdown a set defense. Breakdown the first defensive line but then you need to have a player available to pass the ball to. ACM’s offense is stagnant.

  2. Each game that passes proves Allegri has zero confidence in Gimenez. He’s a 9 and fully fit and Allegri would prefer to continue to bet on his 2 wingers as strikers?…Gimenez’s days seem done.
