Santiago Gimenez will soon be back in training with the rest of the squad following a long absence, as confirmed by Massimiliano Allegri today.

Gimenez has been on the sidelines since October, when his ankle problem became too much for him to handle on the pitch. In December, he underwent surgery and since then, he has been working hard to recover.

Just a few weeks ago, the Mexican striker hinted that “we are almost there” with an Instagram post, fueling the idea of a slightly early return. Given Milan’s inconsistency in attack, the post was met with positive reactions from the fans.

Allegri shares good news

Earlier today, during his pre-match presser for Cremonese vs. Milan, Allegri confirmed that the striker is getting closer to a return. In fact, he even said that the striker could be back in group training next week, which would be great.

Latest on injuries…

“Gabbia is out. He’s still recovering from inflammation. We hope that he will return as soon as possible. Lofuts-Cheek had all his teeth fixed. Gimenez has completed all his pre-training. He’s in good condition. He might start training with the team next week. It’s a good sign, a good recovery.”

Of course, having been out for so long, Gimenez will need a few weeks (at least) to get up to speed and even longer to hit his stride in games.
