AC Milan are hoping to take another big step towards a Champions League plan on Sunday afternoon when they take on Sassuolo.
The results over the past round mean that only six points are needed out of the remaining 12 available for Milan to book their place in the top four. However, things could even be sealed this weekend, even if it requires three results to go the Rossoneri’s way.
Allegri’s doubts
La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) report that Massimiliano Allegri has everyone available, except of course Luka Modric. The Croatian midfielder is expected to be replaced at midfield by Ardon Jashari, who has the upper hand in the battle with Samuele Ricci for the regista spot.
This would be just his sixth Serie A start for the Swiss. Modric’s injury though presents the perfect opportunity to end his unfortunate first season in red and black on a high note, one plagued by injury and limited opportunities.
Allegri also has some doubts about the rest of the starting XI for the trip to Reggio Emilia, particularly on the left flank, where Pervis Estupinan and Davide Bartesaghi are vying for a spot. The Ecuadorian replaced the Italian at half-time in the last match against Juve, and Max could extend his trust in him.
In attack, Allegri has tried various options this week, generally keeping Rafael Leao as the man leading the line. The feeling is that in the end the usual pairing with Christian Pulisic will be confirmed, although Christopher Nkunku’s chances are on the rise.
