Massimiliano Allegri might just have given another sign to Santiago Gimenez by not using him in the loss to Udinese.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport report, for over a month now, when asked about Gimenez, Allegri has explained that he considers the Mexican an important asset for the end of the season. The classic extra weapon returning to the team’s disposal after being absent for a long time.

Everything seemed set for this to happen: a sluggish attack, team-mates plagued by various problems, tactical misunderstandings and the search for a true striker. Santiago seemed like the right man to revitalise the attack, after a four-and-a-half-month enforced absence post-surgery.
Stuck in the pit lane
The Mexican was raring to go, wanting to return in the derby, and then managed to return to the pitch two weeks later against Torino. He got a handful of important and even quite comforting minutes. It felt like fresh air, in a team reduced to relying on Strahinja Pavlovic’s goals.
The problem is that it’s not working. The tactical shift from two forwards to a three-man attack failed, Leao’s recovery failed, and the attempt to get Santi instantly firing is failing too. His successful introduction against Torino was not followed up.
The former Feyenoord man got half an hour at the Maradona in place of Niclas Füllkrug, with a paltry seven touches, and he spent the entire match against Udinese watching from the bench. It was precisely this context that stands out, raising many questions about the future.
In a game that Milan were chasing, why was Santi completely overlooked? Why did Allegri only send Füllkrug to warm up in the first half? Why did everyone else come on in the second half except him?
One answer might lie in the playing time of Füllkrug and Christopher Nkunku, which is superior to Gimenez’s. Yet, in Naples, the German only played one half and the Frenchman barely over a quarter of an hour, a segment that even Santi could have faced.
It’s therefore easier to imagine a purely technical choice, without considering that Allegri preferred a loan player (Füllkrug) who will be returning at the end of the season, while Gimenez cost €28m plus bonuses and has so far scored seven goals in 32 appearances.
If the Mexican wasn’t even considered for the loss against Udinese, a game in which the Diavolo were two goals down at the break, then when? Psychology and fitness are two huge factors, but how can he improve either without playing?
This inevitably raises questions about the direction next season could take. When the club are certain to bring in another striker, presumably a starting-level No.9, the feeling is that World Cup on home soil could become a showcase for a potential sale.

Allegri is too afraid Santi would start scoring and the management might not sell him after all. He’s ready to give Füllkrug minutes because he knows that the German won’t do sh1t and that’s the plan. Allegri is trying to get Milan to buy him a vlahovic.
But let’s see if Max is even there after the summer. We can always dream, eh… 😛
Man, why do you keep writing completely delusional things? He was out since end of October, 6 months without games, correct? So why do you think someone is not playing a player that has been out for 6 months, has a surgery, recovery and isn’t match fit? Because he wants Vlahovic? 😀 hahahaha
Even an injured Gimenez is more useful than 100% fit Füllkrug. And Allegri has been playing injured Leao for over half a season already. So… Just ignore the facts, little kid.
Alegri is a dump clown from XIX c
He has been out a total of 6 months. That is why? 😀
And so he shall never play again?
This doesn’t make sense.
What? Allowing an injured player to get up to speed in training before putting him back into games? After the medical team thinks he is ready? Is this your first day on this planet?
Ah yes, it isn’t already more than a month ago that he returned to training. Can’t even roll my eyes that wide.
And? Milan has 5 players to play in 2 positions. Your idea is what? That Gimenez is ahead of Leao and Pulisic to come of the bench, after being out for 6 months? You know that teams go into preseason to train for almost 2 months to be physically ready, after having a not even 2 month summer break. HE WAS OUT FOR 6 MONTHS. 😀 You can’t be such a clown that someone has to explain this to you. It is common sense.
Max, he needs to play either of his true 9s. Leão as a nine has not worked. Start a 9 and bench either Pulisic or Leão. If Gimenez can only go a half, ok. Otherwise I expect more of the same
“That Gimenez is ahead of Leao and Pulisic to come of the bench”
Your stupidity really is on another level!!! Gimenez instead of Leao or Pulisic? Who the f*** comes up with such ideas??? Oh yeah, Max. 😀 😀 😀 😀
I guess the clown is you then.
The surgery was in December, and although it seems you cannot imagine these are professional Athletes which immediately start with physiotherapy and recovery 24h a day. It’s not they have a daytime job for a living…
Besides that, I think Füllkrug has proven often enough that he is not useful. His days are over. And Leao’s contributions at the moment are not what the team is needing. Nkunku has more bad than goods days too.
So what are the options? Huh?
The options are fit players, and the less fit ( unfit ) player is the 5th choice. Reality. Now I do agree with you partially, they are in bad form, but Leao and Pulisic are Milans top scorers and Gimenez couldn’t score if his life depended on him before the injury. So when the result was 0-2 who do you play? The guy that couldn’t score and was out for 6 months or 2 of the best scorers?
Guess the surgery was because he couldn’t score due to the injury.
Maybe if it was 2-0 for Milan Gimenez would come on. But it wasn’t.
