There have been several parties to condemn the decision to play AC Milan vs. Como in Australia. Now, Massimiliano Allegri has joined them.
When the idea of a Serie A game abroad was first introduced, many didn’t like it. So, when these plans started to become more concrete, with relevant parties supporting them, there has been only greater fear voiced about them.

That brings us to now, where the game looks set to take place in Australia, after the approval from UEFA.

Since that decision, Adrien Rabiot and Milan’s club captain, Mike Maignan, have joined those against the decision. Of course, though, they are not alone, and Allegri has now joined them, voicing his thoughts about the decision to TMW, via Football Italia.
“I’ll say one thing, the important thing is that a decision is made as soon as possible. It would be better to play in Italy, but if we have to go to Perth, we will go to Perth.”
It is not really a surprise that the Italian is against it. However, the fact that he is joining the ‘against’ side of the argument could further pressurise the relevant authorities to change their decision.
Completely ridiculous idea. Just play it somewhere in Italy.
Or flip flop the home games and play it in Como this time instead of San Siro.
That’s actually a very good idea VabbeMilan. Certainly by lengths a far better idea than having to play in Perth.
Right it’s not like the league had 4+ years to plan for this. Common sense will never prevail at the FIGC
This is going to be an unpopular opinion but we should be preparing for the future and the future of many leagues is to offer games outside of the origin country. This is strictly from a business perspective btw.
There’s only a certain amount of $ to go around and there are lots of entities vying for your dollar. The NFL has had games in England for instance as they want to increase their brand visibility. It’s not the majority of games just some. And it’s really about connecting with fans outside of the origin country especially when there’s business viability and willingness to pay for said product.
This will become a game of “benefits of first mover”. And Italy once more will be playing catch up when they see their revenue streams either reduced or not revenues being missed out on.
I know for this forum it’s not what people want to hear but it’s the hard truth. Their business model is likely indicate that fans are more willing to pay for merch and tix in other locations (just seeing how “cheap” some of the games are and seeing people complain – the Jays-Dodgers game for instance is minimum 3 grand a seat…. That’s more than a season ticket at the San Siro… Granted there’s a difference in a playoff game .).
Anyways that’s just my thoughts… Again strictly on a business basis. Ofc I do feel it for the players if they have to travel long distances but those can be mitigated with planning
I think you are wrong but not on the sentiments though as I can see it from a monetary perspective. When that is said the only reason its even option currently is that the teams has found a hole in the rulesets and there recently was an article where it was made clear that Either UEFA or FIFA was against moving matches abroad so if this match happens to be moved abroad it will be an one time event as its planned to plug the hole.
Either way I will personally always strongly oppose moving matches abroad and also even in the event it was moved to my country Denmark as local matches should be played locally.
