Il Giorno: Allegri yet to trust six players Milan invested €150m on – the figures

AC Milan spent a fair bit of money in the last summer window, but they are yet to see a return on almost all of their investment.

As reported in today’s edition of Il Giorno (via MilanVibes), Milan have recorded a rather worrying statistic regarding squad management: approximately €150m in summer investments have found limited space during the season.

Money not well spent

The most expensive new signings – Christopher Nkunku (€37m), Ardon Jashari (€36m), Samuele Ricci (€23m), Pervis Estupinan (€17m), Zachary Athekame (€10m) and David Odogu (€7m) – are not among the players most used by Massimiliano Allegri in Serie A, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana.

The picture that emerges is one of a gap between financial investment and accumulated playing time. The players who arrived in the summer, despite high expectations, have not gained the faith of the head coach.

The exceptions are Luka Modric, who arrived on a free transfer, and Adrien Rabiot, bought for €7m from Marseille. Both are among the players with the most consistent use: the 40-year-old Croatian is fourth in terms of overall minutes played, while the French midfielder occupies sixth position.

Analysing the season’s top eleven by minutes played, in addition to Modric and Rabiot there is only one other new face: Koni De Winter, 10th in the ranking, arrived from Genoa for €20m. He had a difficult start but has gradually managed to prove his worth.

In the attacking department, Niclas Füllkrug from January onwards has totalled just over 500 minutes spread across 16 appearances, with only three starts and one goal scored. This follows the trend of signings: they arrive to fill a gap, but Allegri doesn’t use them.

Of course, new additions must gradually settle in, but the coach is one who has always preferred signings that are able to contribute immediately. Given the pressure to deliver silverware next season, that may guide some of the summer choices.

  1. Is this shocking? When you sign players the coach never asked for, he’s not likely to use them… Duh.

Maybe try signing the players that are actually useful to the system a coach is trying to play?

    1. That’s what you get when a banker who knows nothing about football is leading your transfer department. 37M for Nkunku?? 17M for Espuphian? Etc….the list of MISSES goes on and on. Of the players Allegri did want: Salad, Koni, Modric and Rabiot – they are all doing well. And Redbird loving idiots in here have the balls to still complain about M&M??? 🤣🤡🤣🤡🤣🤡

  2. Not shocking at all, we knew what we are getting with Allegri.

I would never give him what he wants. He will destroy our club with expensive old players with no resell value like he did last time. Maldini spent 3 seasons cleaning up making us economically sustainable, what was the point when we gonna sell ourself out and go back to invest in a short time solutions. Banter era inc.

    1. Jon, you’re absolutely right.

That fan questioning Maldini spent 3 years marking Milan econ sustanable?? Is he mis-typing or something? He is soo bad, lmao foolish. never mind him.
