GdS: Squad standards and solidity – Allegri’s two-phase preseason plan

Massimiliano Allegri wants to raise the standards at AC Milan and the plans for his first preseason back at the club have been drawn up.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) report this morning tht Allegri can’t wait to get started. He wanted Milan and to get back into the game after a year spent watching others from the sofa at home. He has already lifted 14 trophies in his career and certainly has no intention of stopping.

Max knows, however, that the Rossoneri must be turned inside out to become the team he has in mind. The eighth place finish did not come by chance, as he likes to say ‘there is room for improvement and work’. First of all on the mentality of the group and the heads of the individuals.

For this reason he has asked the club to speed things up. The raduno was brought forward to July 7, while Inter and Juventu could still be busy at the FIFA Club World Cup. Never before this summer has it been able to gain a small advantage in preparation over rivals.

Compared to Napoli, Atalanta, Roma, Fiorentina and Bologna, Milan will not be playing in European competitions and therefore, in purely theoretical terms, they could be much fresher for the league.

Group management

Even before the pitch, Allegri will use the summer to make corrections to the group dynamics. Max is not an iron sergeant, he also loves to laugh and joke with his players.

However, there are principles that cannot be compromised with him in command: precise rules, discipline, respect for schedules and impeccable behaviour. The Livorno-born coach – also strong in the credibility of his honours board – will hardly tolerate certain scenes last season.

Discipline became a real issue, with the cooling break saga, the penalty drama vs. Fiorentina and even the argument between Sergio Conceicao and Davide Calabria following the comeback win over Parma.

Allegri has built his fortune as a coach starting first and foremost from the management of the team group: clear agreements and long-lasting friendship.

Work on the field

Once Milan are in order from that point of view, the work in training will come. Max will start by giving solidity and balance to a team that in the last three seasons has never managed to concede less than 40 goals.

Here, at the helm of a big team, whether it is Milan in his first adventure or Juventus in the two experiences, Allegri has never conceded more than 39 goals. It is not just a question of iron defenses, but above all of the collective work of the eleven on the pitch.

To ensure that the players are always on the ball and work as a team, the right mentality must be given. Allegri is so convinced that he can do it that when it came to signing his new contract with the Diavolo he agreed to include bonuses linked only to winning the Scudetto.

In essence there will be no bonus for qualifying for the Champions League, which the Rossoneri sensationally missed last year. Not only that, the agreement between Allegri and Milan is on a two-year basis with options for a third and fourth year together. Options that, in the event of winning the title, would be activated automatically.

In short, Allegri is the first to believe that Milan can get back up after a dismal year. Now he just needs to convince his players.

  1. If we lose Theo and Leao, maybe the team attitude wil be better, na Allegri wil have much less work to do on the players, focusing on tactics and the game itself

    1. Tactics are not that important, that’s partly the reason why we had such a bad season. For big clubs man management has become the biggest factor, which Pioli was pretty good at unlike the Portuguese coaches

The upside of great tactics over mediocre tactics is far lower than that of great motivation to meh motivation.

  2. No worries there, with Theo, Mike and Leao gone, he’ll get his solidity and players who’ll give their all in Emerson, Tomori, Pavlo, Terraciano, Bondo, Fofana, RLC, Chuk, Okafor

    1. yet berlusconi always brought in top names also created milan’s legendary status and won every thing multiple times
