MilanVibes: Allegri wants Gila and Tiago Gabriel this summer to improve defensive roster

It is not a surprise that AC Milan will look to sign a defender in the summer, but it appears that they may add more than one name to their backline.

After the trial against Udinese, it seems difficult to imagine Massimiliano Allegri rushing back to use a back four. Ultimately, his side do not have the capability to withstand pressure as a back four, or even back two at times.

So, the three back should probably continue and this means that recruitment is needed in the backline. Another centre back arriving, with no one leaving, would mean that the Rossoneri have five available options.

However, it seems that Allegri may want to have a fully replaceable defensive line.

Two in for Allegri and RedBird

In recent months, there has been interest in Mario Gila and more recently, Tiago Gabriel, the Lecce defender. So, it could be a case of which one do the Diavolo sign.

Now, MilanVibes suggests that both could join. The duo are ready to step up to a ‘top club’s roster’, having been two of the standout defensive options in the league and a coach like Allegri would imaginably improve them further.

Indeed, they both possess the traits needed to complete the defensive roster, mixing youth with experience and affordability with potential. It would be a pair of signings that impress RedBird and Allegri.

  1. These boys would lift the level of our defence to Champions League level, they f you add Dodo to this we would have the best in seria an and top 10 in Europe.

Optimism: key word of the day

  2. From the look of things we intend to still play with five defenders next season.

To use the 3-5-2 formation, we would need to add quality midfielders and defenders who fit the system and Gila and Tiago are defenders that fit in tge three-man backline.

I would have preferred we play with 4-2-3-1 formation, it would make our best players more efficient and the number of signings we would need may not be many.

Gila and Tiago are good defenders no doubt, but I think youthful exuberance and inexperience may have cost us some points.
I would have added Kim and Skriniar to provide the needed experience to play in a back four, just like we had Kjaer and Romagnoli to groom the younger Gabbia and Kalulu.
We need instant leaders who can command the defense right away.

Milan is known to have the best wingers in Serie A and that has been our strongest department, I don’t understand why a serious club would allow a coach to collapse it’s strongest department as if there is no structure or plan for how the team should be built according to a club philosophy.

Within two seasons we have played 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-4-2, 4-3-1-2 and we are still struggling.

When we had Theo, they always wanted him to defend, look at Dimarco with his goal contribution, those are the kind of numbers we need from wingbacks if we are ever going to get anything from the 3-5-2 formation.

Get proper defenders and allow the wingbacks to run forward to add creativity.

  3. Hi John with those fantastic wingers last season Milan finished 8th and had the 9th worst defensive record. Something had to be done!

    1. Yeah, we needed to recruit a proper number 6 to act as a screen for the defense, get a proper RB, I fail to believe that Gabbia, Tomori, Pavlovic or any of our CB is bad.

Any coach hired should align to the club footballing policy.

Yes something needed to be done, but it should shoe direction. Any formation that eliminates our best players was never supposed to be an option.

They spent the entire window chasing Jashari who clearly isn’t ready to play a starting role leaving the attacking department only to buy Nkunku in the last minute.

Milan finished 8th position and conceded goals not because the players were bad but out of rebellion.
I mean things were going smoothly, we even won the Supercoppa until Conceicao failed on his man management of senior players and it backfired big time.

I mean, we won the Scudetto and reached the UCL semi finals by playing the 4-2-3-1.

Please, take note, I never said our wingers are fantastic but they are the best in the league and they are the best players in our team, so why eliminate them? It completely makes no sense to me.
4-2-3-1, 4-3-3, 3-4-3 any formation that allows Pulisic, Leao and maybe Nkunku express their creativity was the way to go.

I mean, last season we were the 3rd placed goal scoring team, only Inter and Atalanta surpassed us. So why would you eliminate such an attack?
What was to be done was to solidify the defense, with our wingers we have always managed to score goals no matter how bad we play, but now they have to be converted to CF by all means.

Are we gonna win the Scudetto by scoring one goal and parking the bus when Inter and Napoli would be whooping that same team 5 nil?

Comon, let’s not support this, this isn’t the Milan I want to see. A top coach should do better, even when we win 1 nil we should be decisive with our style of play instead of being clueless on the pitch. It’s frustrating.
