‘Always opportunities’ – Fonseca gives cryptic response to question on further signings

Paulo Fonseca is keeping his cards close to his chest when it comes to the final week of the summer transfer market and refused to rule out more arrivals.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of the Serie A fixture against Parma,  Fonseca was of course asked about whether any more new signings will be coming through the door at Milanello.

Milan have signed four first-team players so far this summer; Alvaro Morata, Youssouf Fofana, Strahinja Pavlovic and Emerson Royal, but fans are expecting at least one more signing to be made.

When Fonseca was asked about whether he expects more from the transfer market, he refused to say too much and just pointed out that for a team like Milan there are always more opportunities.

“I think so far the club has done a great job with signings. I think a team like Milan always has opportunities to improve, so let’s see what will happen. I have to say that the club has done a great job with the players they have brought in,” Fonseca said.

The general consensus is that Milan will add one more midfielder to the team and sell at least one. The most likely combination right now would be Ismael Bennacer being sold and Manu Kone arriving from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Tommaso Pobega is expected to be loaned to Bologna very soon but the permanent deal is not guaranteed so it would take a proper sale of a player like Bennacer for more funds to become available.
