Ambrosini believes Milan must be ‘given time’ amid ‘ambitious’ project

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan suffered a big loss in the Derby della Madonnina against Inter last night and their confidence surely took a sizeable hit. However, as argued by Massimo Ambrosini, they must be given time.

Inter were clearly the superior team in the derby and eventually prevailed 5-1, making it a disastrous night for Milan. Stefano Pioli has been heavily criticised for his tactical approach, given that it’s the fifth consecutive loss in the derby.

Speaking to DAZN after the game, as cited by MilanNews, the former Milan captain Massimo Ambrosini shared his thoughts on the defeat. He stated that the Rossoneri must be given more time before tough decisions can be made.

“I think that Milan, due to the path that has been fantastic up to now and also unexpected from a certain point of view, should be given time to mature. The defeat was huge but the team must be given time to mature, and the youngsters must understand that the project is ambitious,” he stated.

Milan will be thrown right back into action on Tuesday evening as they will face Newcastle in the first UCL group stage clash. Bouncing back with a win is crucial, also because the group in the competition is a very tough one.

  1. Which youngsters? RLC? 27. Reijnders? 25. Krunic? 29. Kjaer? 😀 The only real “youngster” in the team was Thiaw. Excuses for bad players.

      1. Thiaw also, but that is it. Time won’t help RLC improve, Milan management is super smart and he had 8 coaches at Chelsea, only Sarri believed in him and more as a defensive player because of his size. He will be exposed by good players every time.

        1. Was RLC exposed yesterday or was the young Thiaw who was exposed?
Thiaw was responsible for 3 of the 5 goals. The 4th goal was thanks to Theo.
Where was RLC exposed? He was actually one of the few that was trying to compete
But let’s complain about Milan not signing overpriced below average Italian players

          1. Yes, defense was exposed by midfield doing nothing defensively. Nothing. Watch the game again. Show me another midfield trio that allows their defense to defend 4v4 all the time and they jog back to defense. You’re just a coward. Everything is great right? That midfield got destroyed by a 34 year old Mykhitaryan who ran more than them. They had 72% of the ball, what did RLC do with the ball? Nothing, not a single useful pass. Anyone can try, it doesn’t mean it was good. He is a bad player that had 8 coaches and 7 though the same as me, only 1 saw a bit of a player in him. Why? Because he is bad. He won’t improve. Just watch any game against bigger teams and how will he do against good midfielders. Easy to be the man against Bologna or Spezia. Same for Reijnders, 93% of pass completion yesterday, what did he do? Big nothing, he was useless and actually lost the ball for the first goal, and didn’t do anything going back. They exposed the defense to counters and you are blaming Thiaw for that? He played bad but it wasn’t his fault his midfield did not exist. Which Italian players you F-in clown? Who mentioned them? Same stupid made up argument every time, try something new. What I wanted is that they sign good players, not Chelsea reject that their fans laughed they got 20M for him. And 25 year old still big talent Reijnders. They will never be good against top midfielder because they are 2-3 levels below them. You can write your Italian players nonsense, but I have said this will happen and you’ll see in big matches, how bad they are.

          2. Inter plays 5-6 starting italians. Seems very overpriced and overrated right? Lol.

And its all the midfield that let’s down the defense btw. Funny how Thiaw is now public enemy number 1 when he used to be God’s gift to man just a short while ago.

          3. Giancarlo, we are talking about yesterday’s game.
Who was at fault for the goals yesterday? RLC or Thiaw?
Do you ever think before you write something in here?

          4. The whole team. Defense was bad, all 4 of them but midfield was even worse, all 3 of them. Pulisic also useless and didn’t defend. Only cowards like you always single out one player, because you are a coward. And why are you being pathetic and calling me a random name? Jer si pičketina šiptarska.

          5. And yes, we are talking about the game yesterday where Inter gave the ball to RLC and Reijnders and they lost it 17 times and allowed Inter to attack like they have 2 more players. That is why Milan was destroyed, not because Thiaw didn’t react well when half of the Inter team was within 20 meters of the goal. You clearly have no clue about football. They were walking back, Thiaw is a 22 year old defender and you clowns expect him to cover Thuram and also Mikhitaryan, Barella and Calhanoglu. They were alone most of the time, close to the goal. Whose job was that?

          6. Ha ha 😂 Giancarlo why don’t you write it in English.
            Dokaži da nisi pičketina.
Also, if you are not Giancarlo why are you responding when you are called Giancarlo

          7. Zato, jer bolje zvuči na pravom jeziku. “Also, if you are not Giancarlo why are you responding when you are called Giancarlo” Dude, you are commenting on something I wrote, why are you so stupid? You are asking me why am I replying? Because you wrote such stupid things in a normal world you would just die, your useless brain would shut down.

  2. Pioli’s 4th year in Milan, so it’s not give him time kind of balderdash all over again. And the great thing is that yesterday was the biggest humiliation defeat on derby on his era. Just when he heavily involved in the market and such. It’s not even that humiliating derby defeat when we’re on that January’s rock bottom.
