One player who will not be leaving this summer is Christopher Nkunku, at least if Ruben Amorim gets his wishes.
According to Calciomercato.com, Amorim’s decision on Nkunku was discussed at the meeting held on Friday involving Gerry Cardinale and the new management. Among the players currently in the squad, the Frenchman has the ‘ideal characteristics’ for the style the new boss wants to implement.

An initial formal approach between Nkunku and Amorim has already taken place in recent days, but the source is confident that a meeting will soon take place where the former Manchester United player will reaffirm his full confidence in him ahead of next season.
Round peg for a round role?
Arriving with a big price tag and the expectation to excel in a role that isn’t natural to him (striker), the Frenchman took a long time to adapt to a new league and to get back into shape after a very difficult period physically.
Nkunku quietly suffered from a lack of confidence and the difficulties of a formation that forced him to always play with his back to the goal. Now the music is changing and it could be very good news for the ex-Leipzig star.
Nkunku will start in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 – no ifs, ands, or buts. The idea behind the new tactical approach is to be quick and direct in transition, allowing the former Chelsea man to get the ball and run at defences.
Amorim’s mission is to rekindle that flame within the Frenchman and bring him back to the form he showed in Germany. Nkunku has a long-term contract with Milan, running until 2030.
He’s currently enjoying his holidays to recover from the double disappointment of failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League and not being called up to the World Cup with France.
He’ll be at Milanello on July 12th for a training camp and then will make a final decision regarding his future. His agent, Pini Zahavi, has received several offers from Turkey and the Premier League. Milan remains his priority and this is also thanks to Amorim’s admiration.

I know, that wasn’t the point. We need someone better than Nkunku, he could be a pretty decent backup but nothing more than that.
Revolt, what I think is, if Milan don’t play defensive then Nkunku can be good. He is not like Mateta or Lukaku who can play back to the goal and hold defenders until players arrive. That’s how Allegri played. Just think, most of our attack players LOOK bad because Allegri played like that where defend like life depends. Then counter attack with long balls or passes. Attackers are always looking back and waiting for the pass. With Amorim Nkunku will run towards goal posts like a rabid dog is behind him and press and I think he will be good.
Have faith brother. I think we should not judge players on how they played last season. Last season was a disaster under a dinosaur coach who only played negative Corto Musso football.
The problem is Nkunku (has) had several
bad seasons behind him (by) now, he just isn’t that good, his caliber isn’t good enough for such
an important role and status. Again, good for
a backup but a little bit expensive for a rotation player considering our previous policy meaning
he was paid way too much just like Ardon was. Gimenez as well but at least I can understand the background and the reasoning behind that transfer (fee) to an extent.
Even Saleamakers can pair Pulisic behind the striker. But I would not to see either Trincao or Brahim Diaz behind the striker with his solo run attacking the box like kaka

last season was Nkunku’s first season…he needs time to adjust to a new club and new teammates, let’s give him a chance. Isn’t that what everyone keeps saying about Ricci and Jashari?
Nkunku deserves a chance. I was a beast in Germany then joined the wrong club.
Then last season, dor what his strengths are we might as well have asked him to play tennis.
I’m not saying he’s a sleeping giant but we’ve got to give Amorim, his completely new system, and the players who are tasked with playing it a chance.

Nkunku has had many chances with Milan and his production was subpar and very irregular and inconsistent, with just a few good games. He is a “has been.” His good days in Germany are way behind him. Currently he is no longer good enough. The one thing he does well, he does earn PKs and take them well. Without that, his production would have been even worse.
