Amorim affirms desire ‘to help’ Milan but admits: “I don’t know if I’ll have the time”

Ruben Amorim has claimed that he wants to help AC Milan build towards success, but he doesn’t know if he will be given the time.

This is perhaps the biggest game that Milan and Benfica will both have in the first phase of the competition. What is interesting though is that both Amorim and Marco Silva have chosen to make quite significant changes to their starting XIs.

The Rossoneri have made five alterations compared to the side that drew with Lazio at the weekend, while the Eagles have changed nine from their line-up at the weekend, perhaps with an eye on the fact they play the early table-toppers Porto on Sunday.

It promises to be an entertaining spectacle at San Siro with over 65,000 fans expected to be present for a game that has more of a Champions League feel, given the six previous meetings have all come in that competition.

Before the game got under way, Amorim spoke to Sky to offer his thoughts on the night ahead. His words were relayed by MilanNews.

There’s a lot of talk about Luka Modric. He’s starting on the bench today. Have you spoken to him?

“The Lazio game was simply a match where the team didn’t play well, not just Luka. I have to rotate players, especially with a 40-year-old player. But he can play. I have to rotate the players, but we definitely want to win every game.

“In my experience, it’s impossible to be fresh all the time with three games in a week. We’re trying to get all the players into top form, so we’re choosing accordingly.”

You found a similar problem as you found in Manchester: a huge club trying to get back to being great… It seems you don’t have the right players who fit perfectly into your system…

“I think you’re partly right. At United and Milan, I find two great clubs and a lot of pressure, where people think I can solve everything in a short time. This team is different; they’re used to playing with three men, and the defenders are quick.

“I don’t have the perfect characteristics because it’s impossible to arrive at a new club and have everything ready. I know it will take time, and I also know the pressure is so high that you don’t have time.

“But I prefer doing this type of work because it means a lot to me: if I have to fail, it’s better if I fail big. I want to help this club. I don’t know if I’ll have the time, but the players listen to me a lot in training, and that gives me hope that solutions can be found.”

    1. Yes you are not far from the truth because you need to be sack for first waisting 75 mill on waste Ramos and Huchesin is over priced same as Moreira why Amorim why. Pls send him back to MAN U to continue there.

  1. This idiot already making excuses for himself. I want to know who actually thought this was a good hire after seeing his disastrous stint at United.

  2. Any coach (one person) who can’t adopt to his players and must force 25 or so players (persons) to adopt him is a bad coach. The greats always have had to adjust from time to time. He thinks every club is Sporting. His lack of depth within himself is the reason why he failed at Man Utd and the very reason why , unfortunately, he’s bent to fail at AC Milan.

    1. This. It’s so bloody obvious to anyone that it’s far better to change the tactics based on the players available instead of trying to convert the players to suit the tactics. And even if the “conversion” would be successful, what’s the coach’s reaction when all the opponents have figured out how to counter that one tactic he relies on? Yeah. One-trick ponies rarely wins much.

  3. Amorim out. Motta in. Motta is what a group of young players need. I know it didn’t work for him at Juve, but Spalleti is hardly doing much better. This squad is good enough to win the Europa league. Only a complete buffoon picks Terraciano or Estuupido. Also Jashiri is a dud.
