Moretto: Amorim likes Hjulmand ‘a lot’ but various factors complicate pursuit

The possibility of AC Milan signing Morten Hjulmand seems to be dwindling due to the price tag and competition.

As soon as Ruben Amorim was announced as the new head coach of Milan, the links with Hjulmand surfaced. It is perhaps natural given how important the Dane was during his time at Sporting CP, having arrived there from Lecce.

Now, Matteo Moretto (via MilanEye) has provided an update. While it is true that Amorim likes Hjulmand a lot, as of today Milan have a lot of players in the midfield and there are also other clubs that intend to move for Hjulmand.

In addition to that, he mentions that the Rossoneri have just made a big splash on a striker (Goncalo Ramos, for a figure of €74m plus bonuses) and thus there is a budgetary aspect to be considered too.

Competition from Spain

Meanwhile, Moretto reports for MARCA that Atlético Madrid has Hjulmand on their midfield wish list. Their sporting director, Mateu Alemany, had practically finalised the signing of Joao Gomes from Wolverhampton, but he is not done there.

Diego Simeone likes Hjulmand’s profile, and Atlético are considering making an official offer in the coming weeks. The club are looking to sign two players to strengthen their midfield, with the ex-Lecce star being one of them.

The 27-year-old has ‘attracted the attention of Europe’s top clubs’ after his impressive season with Sporting CP. His current market value, according to Transfermarkt, is €45m.
