Ruben Amorim was happy AC Milan got the win in his first home game in charge, but conceded that there is work still to do.
Despite the scoreline looking like a comfortable 2-0 victory for Milan in their first game at San Siro, it was a rather strange match in truth. The Rossoneri spurned some big opportunities to go a goal up and gave Venezia plenty of encouragement at the other end.

Goncalo Ramos had been guilty of missing most of the opportunities, yet he stayed in the game and fired in the opener after the hour-mark from Alexis Saelemaekers’ feed. Ardon Jashari then forced an own-goal which added a second late on, meaning it is two wins from two for the new coach.
After the full-time whistle, Amorim made his way over to the DAZN broadcast team to share his thoughts on a memorable evening in front of the San Siro crowd, with his words via MilanNews.
It’s another win, but can Milan improve their control of the game?
“I think it’s easy to understand the match. I said before the game that it would be a difficult match because of the way they would play. We struggled one-on-one, some transitions, but we had more chances than them to score.
“That’s clear, but we never had possession for long periods. We managed some things well, others less so. We need to keep working, but we won, and that’s the most important thing.”
Saelemaekers made the difference as an attacking midfielder…
“I was watching the game and thought we had space in his position and needed creativity. Initially, I thought about just replacing Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but then I thought we needed more creativity. That was the idea.”
What priorities do you think you need to address after two games?
“We need to improve the way we occupy the penalty area during crosses. When we attack, our central defenders need to think that their game is different. They shouldn’t worry about who scores, but rather start preparing transitions.
“There’s a lot to do, but it’s not easy to play in this stadium. The fans have a good memory, but they’re working really hard. Sometimes we don’t win beautifully, but this helps us build confidence.”
How many goals did you ask for from Gonçalo Ramos?
“I don’t know, and I’m not thinking about his goals. Sure, he’s a striker, we paid a lot for him, but the way he works helps us a lot. Sometimes it seems like there are two of them pressing, but in the end it’s just him.
“Today he missed two chances, but in the third he didn’t think about anything, just about scoring, and he did it.”
I dont understand where his head was to dump Fofana and keep Musah.

Leao was missing most of last season in games like this. We lost against teams like Venezia.
Was that Leao fault? He was played as a striker… Out of position without proper service.
