Morten Hjulmand and Goncalo Ramos aren’t the only players Ruben Amorim knows that he would like to have at AC Milan.
Reports in the past 24 hours have suggested that Amorim will have a big say when it comes to the transfer market, and so the new coach is gradually identifying the right reinforcements for his Milan side to take shape.

Another Sporting star in sight
Thus, after having set his sights on Gonçalo Ramos, the Portuguese source Record (via Mediaset) report that Amorim would like convince Sporting CP to sell him Pedro Gonçalves. He is another forward, but with more winger characteristics who on paper seems suitable to replace Rafael Leao.
Money will be needed given that Ramos costs around €40m and ‘Pote’, as Gonçalves is known, is worth around €30m. So, the sale of Santiago Gimenez could be a pre-requisite, while that of Leao could tip the balance too.
Gonçalves is apparently open to the move, which is a positive starting point. He is a right-footed attacking midfielder, capable of playing both as a pure attacking midfielder and as a winger. Physically stocky (he stands 1.73m tall), his main qualities are speed and dribbling.
He has an excellent long-range shot and remarkable accuracy in his shots from outside the box, he can run forward without the ball, has excellent vision, and is well-versed in set pieces, a significant gap in Milan’s squad for years.
His stats aren’t lacking in goals: 13 last season, plus eight assists in 27 games. In short, the player could be very useful to the Rossoneri and Amorim, but convincing Sporting CP, with whom he has a contract until 2030, won’t be easy.
What do we need him for if we switch to 3-4-2-1?
He is an attacking midfielder. He literally played in that position under Amorim. Do you know how much is 2+2? This is the same level of question.
According to TM, he’s primarily a left winger which is clearly mentioned in this article as well (“another forward, but with more winger characteristics who on paper seems suitable to replace Rafael Leao”) but OK. Then again, Transfermarkt also mentioned him as a central midfielder and not an AMC at all so I’m guessing the truth is he can play in almost every position in the attacking department apart from a number 9. Excuse me for saying this but you’re not the most trustworthy source when it comes to Amorim and Sporting Lisabon, sorry, how do you expect people to trust you on this & other things when you repeatedly claimed that Amorim never used real wingers in his career?! Come on.

I would preferr Trincao over Gonçalves since we already have Nkunku and Pulisic who would be best at the left attacking midfielder position in the 3-4-2-1.
The right AM we dont really have anyone for, other then Chukwueze who is also a winger much more then AM. I guess Amorim can attempt to convert him to that position, like he did with Diallo at Man United, but he would be better suited as a backup for Trincao who knows that position by heart.
Then again we gonna keep seeing these articles with all of Amorims former favorites linked with amove. 90% of them will be clickbait.
I haven’t seen Goncalves play yet but I’m pretty sure he’s not what we need are what we are looking for or what we should be looking for this summer. Why? He is too expensive to be just a backup and he really most probably is more of a (left) winger than a AMC judging from the reports. I mean, R. Quaresma could pass as/for an AMC but we all know he was a (R/L)W. Trincao or Kang-in Lee and Chukwueze or B. Diaz or Zaniolo, that’s how we should look behind the no. 9. That fifth player could be someone like RLC only not him but someone else, that guy should be sold now finally.
Noooo Amorim is planning for a 4-2-3-1 formation not 3-4-3 that’s why he need that winger too.
