Amorim explains ‘simple’ decision to reinstate Tomori: “Best for the team”

During his press conference on Saturday afternoon, Ruben Amorim explained the decision to reinstate Fikayo Tomori in the AC Milan squad.

In the final weeks of the summer transfer window, Tomori was part of the so-called bomb squad along with Youssouf Fofana, Santiago Gimenez and Christopher Nkunku. However, while all three of them left, the Englishman ended up staying at the club.

The decision was made due to the injury of Matteo Gabbia, as well as the failure to sign Goncalo Inacio, which left Amorim with Sankhoun Diawara as the only centre-back option on the bench (excluding Daide Bartesaghi).

Easy decision for Amorim

Speaking at the press conference earlier today on the eve of Juve-Milan, Amorim was asked about Tomori and the Rossoneri’s handling of the player. At the end of the day, the best decision for the team was made, as the manager put it.

“About Tomori, it’s simple. We had an issue with Gabbia. I don’t know what’s going to happen on that front. We will soon have four games in ten days, so we need to be prepared.

“Then I had the feeling that Tomori was training well and was in good shape, and above all, he was still our player.

“At the end of the day, we have to think about our team. For our team, the best thing was to take Tomori back. It was a simple decision, a technical and tactical one,” he stated.

    1. Erm… The one who laid off the same player because he’s of no use for him and banned him from training with the squad?

    1. Here’s hoping 🙏 they tried and failed this window but seeing Tomori floundering out of position for another four months should tip them over the edge…

  1. It will be really nice not to read some sh*t comments from sh*t fans. Will it kill to give some encouraging message to him. After all if he does well we all benefit from it.

  2. To me he is still the best we have and is a good thing for him to stay, and l believe he will get back to form and also stay for long ♥️

  3. From the very start the decision to get rid of tomori was a stupid decision. Tomori might not be a brilliant player and can be beaten to the ball but he is generally strong, can recover well and shows commitment and ‘grinta’. The episode shows that the milan management is weak, poor and has no foresight or planning. Things are run on a day to day basis with lots of improvisation – and this is bad. The attempt to get the lecce defender on the last day or two is a case in point.
