Ancelotti praises Morata, Camarda and Ibrahimovic but claims Milan are ‘missing Maldini’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan take on Real Madrid in Chicago tonight and that means they will be reunited with Carlo Ancelotti, who had a few words on his former club.

Milan are back in action in the 2024 Soccer Champions Tour when they face off against the champions of Europe, Real Madrid, and you can read our preview ahead of the game for all the information you need to know.

Ancelotti is someone who needs little introduction for Milan fans given what he achieved at the club after joining in 2001, including the 2002–03 Champions League and 2002–03 Coppa Italia. The following season, he won the Scudetto and another Champions League three years after that.

He is the longest-serving manager in the history of the club when considering only single spells, and he has won 13 trophies with Real Madrid including three UCLs, establishing himself as one of the greatest managers of all time.

Ancelotti spoke at his pre-match press conference on the eve of the game at Soldier Field and he was asked for a few thoughts on Milan, which were relayed on Reddit.

“Milan are doing a great job with Ibrahimovic. Milan are missing Paolo Maldini, but that’s football. They got a great striker like Morata. Camarda is a young man and is very good,” he said.

  1. Maldini was completely reckless, he didn’t think about ROI and he did the utter insult to ask for investment in order to compete for trophies. Maldini and Ancelotti are clueless, fans don’t want to win, they want an official tequila and to shuffle the team every season.

    1. And he did the unthinkable by paying over 30 million in one player without asking for discounts or playing Cardinal’s favorite wait game then the player failed ……
Well, failed with Pioli but was good enough for Atalanta to pay Milan nearly what they paid

    2. Who cares about winning trophies any way, that’s boring. As long as the financial report is good and red bird are making money we are good lol. (American “fans” mentality) 😀

          1. Well there is some kind of US imperialism around here. A lot of American fans mocking Italy or Serie A, or Berlusconi or Maldini, claiming that the dissolution of Milan traditions and values is progress or modernity. Fans didn’t say anything when Elliott was at the helm but now it’s business first and Jerry said explicitly « we focus on the US ». That’s painful to hear for European fans following the club for more than two years and expecting resurgence from a 7 UCL winning club.

          2. To be fair I’m probably a bit old school and would personally prefer that European clubs only could be owned by Europeans as its our heritage and not the other way around but that’s not the world we live in. I do nevertheless think that this ownership also does a lot of good and their intentions are well even if I doesn’t agree with everything they do. Maybe Rossi is a bit too critical in his sentiment though but hasn’t really thought of his comments to be Anti-American in general.

          3. @Bartholomeo. Why do you assume that the people doing these things are Americans? You are projecting. Also, focusing on a new market is a bad thing? Why? We need to keep improving our revenue streams. If our European fan base is already established, there is no need to “focus” on them. All of our games are played in Europe. What’s the issue with playing a couple of pre-season friendlies in the U.S., or Asia or wherever? Did you see the crowd in Chicago? 90% were wearing the white shirt of Madrid. Do you think Madrid is going to return their ticket sales and merchandise because those people didn’t buy them in Europe? Come on dude. You complain about our “cheap” owners, but then Madrid drops 80M on a player and part of the reason is because when it goes to the U.S.A. 90% of the 60,000 people at a friendly are Madrid fans. Those people pay for tv to watch the games, buy tickets to games, buy shirts, etc. Multiply that around the world. It’s brand recognition on full display. This is not a tough concept to grasp.

    3. Not even close. The real reason why they dismissed Maldini is because he wanted the new stadium (God knows how’s the progress) under his name.

    4. Nah just change the club name to AC Maldini, what is Milan? Thats a sh*t city and a small club with crap history, only Maldini matters

      1. I don’t know what your issues are with Maldini, it appears on every comment sections you’re always dissing him. What gives? Are you okay, man?

    5. Yes, definitely headed for relegation this season. If only we had less money coming in from partnerships, maybe we would have been able to sign Mbappe this summer. These idiots aslo don’t know that new stadiums can be constructed for free! Redbird out!

  2. After reading peoples constant bs for the last year offending people supporting Paolo i guess Ancelotti is now also an AC Maldinista, right kiddos.

    1. Whatever peoples opinions, we can disagree, but some of the language used against a club icon like Maldini is not acceptable and would lead me to believe they are not real Milan fans at all.

Don Carlo another gentleman and a legend

      1. Yeah I wouldn’t be too surprised either if that is the case but I would sorta be able to accept such taunting from opponents but if I ever meet an actual Milan fan in an AC Milan shirt saying that to my face I might actually teach that person a thing or two about respect as Its well below what should be expected from Milan fans.

Indeed and always done in style 🙂

        1. I have pals who are Liverpool supporters, once they started some chant about Maldini, they looked at each other stopped and said “ah we can’t say that it’s Maldini”
He is a legend revered around the world

It was such a privilege as a Milan fan to see him representing the club. Some great vidoes online of Henry, Carragher etc being star struck meeting him.
You can’t buy that kind of respect

          1. Yeah everyone would have been over the moon having him in their squad. I remember an interview with Galliani or someone else in the management who after a a match against Man utd, had been approached by Alex Fergusson in regard of acquiring Maldini and he had pretty much laughed at it and said he could try to persuade him but there was no chance that he would ever accept moving away from Milan. His farewell game at San Siro will always stand in infamy to me and I would have been furious if I had been there.

Absolutely I will always think of Maldini fondly and respect, they simply doesnt make them like taht anymore. Yeah lots of player was in awe when in company of Paolo, Pujol and Ramos also comes to mind and it was indeed funny to see how starstruck they also were.
Absolutely one of a kind and if I may be a bit cheeky a demigod amongst footballers 😀

          2. Yeah I think Ferguson was told to speak to his father, his father said “my grandfather is Milan, my father is, I am Milan, my sons are Milan. Forget it.'”

          3. So that was the phrasing of it SJF 😀 been a long time since i read that interview but remembered it had me laughing a lot but the way you put it is even more funny than I could currently remember it.

      2. yeah and constantly betting against Milan wishing for losses so you can gloat about ‘oh yeah Milan would win with Maldini’ means you are a ‘true fan’

        nice 10/10 twitter logic

        1. I never bet and has been an AC MIlan fan for 35 years in thick and thin but what you can do is bet all the money you got that I would pay a great deal of cash to see you hanging from an abatoir meat hook and then use your freaking body as a punching bag,

          1. True Murican response, cant type for sh*t and will threatej violence at the girst chance ON THE INTERNET

            Are you dumb????

          2. Yeah right, offending people en masse and making up sh1t about people and what they say and then you dislikes the reaction ,you are clearly in no position to point fingers at anyone around here and no I’m not American not that it matters what I am.

      3. Maldini was trying to build a Italian team with the available resources. Look at Barcelona and Real Madrid , they always have a Spanish player in the team that was promoted from their academy or development. Pep Guadiola is also doing the same at Manchester City. ACMILAN will always struggle against teams that have their country’s DNA. Maldini can be trusted to build a winning team because he was a winner. Winning is a habit

    2. “Maldinisti” was such a horrible word being used in these parts. It’s like they turned it into bad thing for supporting one your own. 🤷‍♂️ I will forever support a Milanista who’s been through the wars together.

      1. Yeah I agree and it didn’t make any sense to me either, being a Milan fan and supporting Maldini pretty much goes hand in hand as I see it.
Yeah you support the club and players in thick and thin otherwise there is no purpose of it all.

          1. Absolutely agree VIE as he is the player who has by far played and won the most for us in the entire history of the club. Add to that his family has been of immense importance to a great deal of other victories. Him and the entire family deserves our respect and yes not supporting them is blasphemy in my book as well.

  3. RM is a die- hard team. No matter tonight match’s result, It’s meaningless and burgeless to us.
The club’s DNA is thick and solid.
    Hala Madrid.

  4. KING CARLO being diplomatic as usual.

Ask him in private in regards to his former club and I expect the response to be A LOT LESS DIPLOMATIC 😉

  5. Well for me, it’s a shame that Maldini was kicked out from Milan. However Milan without Maldini is not the only success path in football. And if he and the owners don’t align in ideas of how the club should return to glory, then parting ways is logical. My only problem is it seems the severance was done without due respect to him.

  6. It’s actually an absolute disgrace the way they treated Maldini, but the new owners care little for that sort of thing. It was only a matter of time before his son was also disposed of, regardless of how well he is doing. Now the Italian core has gone and there is little room for young home grown talent to emerge at the club. For me as a fan for over 30 years this is very sad and frustrating.

    1. you literally support a player who wrote in his book that he’d walk to Madrid if they called back in 08 and you talk about disgrace….lol

      1. Take a look at yourself – the greatest defender ever and a club legend as well as a family dynasty within the club.

      2. LMAO 😂😂😂🤣🤣
How do u do it!?! You need to teach me that trick.
Also u do understand he was 40 in 2008 and we’d have a good 20+ years of service and blindly signing his contract extensions because he didn’t cAre about the money. I believe the quote was along the lines that if he were to ever leave it would have been only for Madrid (which obviously makes sense as they were the only other club that could rival our stature back then)…..at 40….
Also he got approached early 2000s by real and then by man Utd mid 2000s ish. And those are the ones I can recall off hand

      3. That mental illness of yours is in full effect this time eh.
Frothing and foaming at the mouth. Nothing new here.

        1. Says the guy who hasnt got half a brain to think i’m mentioning his USERNAME whch is Pirlo

but in your mind Milan’s only relevant player is Maldini so no wonder you spam dumb stuff 24/7

      4. Stfu imbecile.U re nobody under the bridge talking about Maldini and Ancelotti.Go on sucking jerrys balls u gringo pos

  7. Carlo has confirmed what every clever milan fan has known for a long time – maldini (and massara) were great. Furlani with his fuc…. stubble is not worth tieing maldini’s bootlaces and is just a fool at cardinale’s orders and getting paid for not having a hazy idea of how to tackle the transfer market ….. last year thuram and taremi …. this year zirkzee …. and if he is really after rabiot, then this confirms he is simply bonkers!!!!!
