AC Milan are looking for another striker ahead of the summer window, and like January 2025 he could carry the name of Santiago.
In the last round of action when Milan won 3-2 at San Siro against Torino, Santiago Gimenez made his big return having been out injured since late October. The former Feyenoord star’s future will be decided in the final two months, but he seems destined to leave unless he bags a few goals.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), the Rossoneri directors are already working to find their future striker. The choice could fall on Gimenez’s namesake, the Argentine Santiago Castro of Bologna.
Castro ticks the boxes
Castro has been at Bologna since the 2024 winter transfer window, and has scored 22 goals in 95 appearances across all competitions since arriving. He was behind Joshua Zirkzee for the first few months, then last season he scored eight goals as a starter.
This season, he has already hit 11 goals across all competitions. Despite not being the biggest physically, he is a striker who knows how to put himself about, and Milan believe he is ready for the next step.
Nothing concrete has happened yet, and no negotiations have been started. However, he is at the top of Milan’s list and Bologna – who have invested heavily in the player – including in terms of playing time, have no intention of selling Castro unless they receive an offer they cannot refuse.
This offer, CorSport estimates, would have to be no less than €40m. Castro would fit the bill perfectly: young and determined, with a classic ‘Allegrian’ character. He works hard on and off the ball, and he can play in any system, like a 3-5-2 or a 4-3-3.
The one thing is clear…we will keep having regrets about the one we failed to pursue in hindsight or keep going for a cheap quick deal turned pear shape soon. It’s either we get Lewandowski and be guaranteed a few goals, or miss a Santiago and he explodes somewhere else. So the point is we need to take decisive action to sort out the no9 role or live in regret, what ifs or maybes in future…Santiago is not a bad experiment, he shows promise and with the right kind of play around him he might explode. Getting it right will forever remain a game of chance in the current environment where the best ones are out of reach.
