ANSA: FIGC open investigation into racial abuse during Cagliari vs. Milan – the latest

By Isak Möller -

Some saddening events took place after the game between AC Milan and Cagliari last night, as especially Mike Maignan received racial abuse from the home crowd. And it resulted in a brawl between the players.

As the final whistle was blown, the fans hurled things at Maignan as he was leaving his position between the posts. Fikayo Tomori rushed over and also made some gestures towards the Cagliari fans, which resulted in the brawl.

According to ANSA, via SportFace, the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) have decided to open an investigation into the racial abuse that took place at the stadium. The prosecutor will look over the TV images and there will also be hearings with the parties involved.

Police have also been contacted in an attempt to identify some of the culprits. It remains to be seen what the outcome of the investigation will be as we have seen this so many times before in Italy, and especially in Cagliari.

  1. Cagliari will get a 1000€ fine and that’s it. The racists will be shouting their abuses in the next matches as well.

Hopefully they’ll do that next year in Serie B instead as the league cannot get them under control.
