ANSA: Pioli orders Milan squad to train at San Siro on Saturday – the key reason

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will hold their last training session before this weekend’s game with Genoa at a different venue to the one normally used, a report claims.

Italy and in particular the region of Lombardy – of which Milano is the capital – has been hit by the outbreak of the coronavirus, with over 3,000 confirmed cases country-wide.

It led to the original Milan-Genoa fixture being postponed on Sunday as well as the midweek Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against Juventus, but the former has now been rescheduled for Sunday at 15:00 CET and will be played behind closed door.

According to what ANSA are reporting (via MilanLive), tomorrow the Rossoneri team will carry out their final training session before the game on the field at San Siro and not in Milanello. The thinking behind the decision is so the players can get used to playing in the stadium with no supporters, as they might have to do for a few more home games yet.

It has also been confirmed that there will not be the usual press conference in the media room on Saturday, but instead Stefano Pioli will speak to Milan TV. Again, this is due to the outbreak of the virus.
