AS: Milan’s striker shortlist gets shorter – Dovbyk to stay at Girona

By Euan Burns -

The list of strikers that AC Milan could sign next season has gotten shorter again as Artem Dovbyk is now expected to stay with LaLiga side Girona.

As has been reported by the Spanish newspaper AS (via Milan News), the Ukrainian striker is now not expected to make a move this summer despite being linked with so many teams.

It seemed that Dovbyk was the first alternative to Joshua Zirkzee if Milan are unable to get that deal over the line, but the report claims that he has now told his agent that he would like to stay at Girona for another year.

This is certainly a good thing for Girona who seemed as though they would have most of their team picked apart after an incredible season that saw them qualify for the Champions League.

The chance to stay where he is settled and in form, whilst still playing in the Champions League, is likely what proved to be the deciding factor for Dovbyk.

Milan are not the only team that Dovbyk has shunned with his decision. Saudi Pro League sides have made offers, along with Atletico Madrid, West Ham and Napoli. Dovbyk was part of the Ukraine squad that exited Euro 2024 at the group stage.

  1. Juve is putting Chiesa for sale for 25mil! That’s a bargain!! Milan should buy him let him play for a season and then sell or have him for a back up if leao or pulisic leaves! Or let leao play as a striker he was a striker before

    1. You are Wrong sir! It’s not advisable to spend BIG on a Seasonal Player or Striker. Secondly, what was his Work Rate at EURO 2024 before Ukraune Exit🤔🤔🤔. Same questions goes to Zirkzee 🤔🤔🤔 Never kick ball at the EURO 2024 at all and they expect Ac milan should Cough 55 million EURO 🤔🤔🤔 nor Secsko that performed Below expectations at EURO 2024 too with His National Team🤔🤔🤔

      1. I couldn’t careless about this guy and how they perform in Euro. What I care is a about our need for a striker that hasn’t been addressed till know. It’s a major thing to be addressed since last season, even more so when we knew Giroud wouldn’t renew. It’s critical yet nothing concrete effort from the management.

First Guirassy that has been connected from the last winter. He’s gone to Dortmund now. Then Zirkzee, also from the last winter. Looks like the progress has stopped. Then many sources we also targeted Dovbyk. Dead end also. The more we wait for this to be addressed, the more shortage of options we’ve got. The easiest case would be Jovic a season ago.

      1. We all don’t know any better. Dovbyk has been mentioned by lots of source. Just by the fact that we won’t get him, doesn’t mean that we can conviniently say he’s not our target to begin wit.

  2. All the other teams are active on the market and going after their targets quickly. Only Milan waits and see for what would be left for cheep. Lol so much from wining. I see now the real importance of Maldini in this management. Without him there is zero ambition in this club. When the new management is done with their work will be closer to Roma level than Inter.

    1. Last mercato was really a good one. Pulisic, Loftus, Chukwu, Reijnders, Okafor. Even Musah (he is not outstanding but still very young with potential). We got rid of atomic hole in the right wing position and have quality there, also Leao has proper backup (Okafor), midfield level also increased. But this one so far is really hugely disappointing…

      1. Only the RW was improved (Which wasnt hard since we had Sala/Mesia there). The mid went down in quality according to me. When Krunic had to be the DM that speaks volumes about how much of a good job they did. The work load was again mainly on Leao/Theo/Giroud who were all from Maldini era.

        1. Rome wasn’t built in one day. Milan wouldn’t be strengthened in one window. You understand it’s a continuous process? 🙂

          1. Yea, but you should understand that the concept can go the other way too. Which is what is happening here. We went from needing a RW to needing almost everything now.

    2. Rossi is perfectly right – ZERO AMBITION. BUT WITH ZERO CHARACTERS SUCH AS FURLANI, IBRA AND MONCADA LIVING ON SCRAPS WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT? Every time i read about zirkzee, morata, lukaku, giurassy ……. excuse me, i start to vomit …. but then i think of jovic and feel much better.

  3. Dovbyk looked extremely limited and you can’t go off goals scored in La Liga. Many crap players score in La Liga. The real test is in Europe. Morata or Piamonti would be better.
