Atalanta director offers response to rumours of Milan’s interest in Pessina and Ilicic

Technical director Giovanni Sartori has discussed reports linking AC Milan with moves for two of Atalanta’s players, namely Josip Ilicic and Matteo Pessina.

Sartori spoke to TeleLombardia and was asked about the recent speculation that has emerged concerning Ilicic. The 33-year-old has 55 goals and 37 assists in 141 games for La Dea since arriving and has been one of their best performers, but Di Marzio revealed last night how Milan have taken a shine to the Slovenia international.

Di Marzio (via MilanNews) then added that with or without the renewal Calhanoglu, Milan are seriously interested in Ilicic. The player could have the will to fulfil his dream of playing in a top club and sporting director Ricky Massara – who followed him at Roma with Monchi – has sensed an opportunity.

“I have read, but this interest does not appear to us: it is news without any foundation,” Sartori said (via Calciomercato.com).

Fabrizio Romano reported for Calciomercato.com recently that the Rossoneri management has always remained vigilant and informed regarding Pessina, suggesting that the door seems to be far from closed, unless of course Pessina wants to close it himself.

“He could become a transferred player. He is having a great championship and confirmed the great season at Verona,” Sartori said.

“He has found a position under the striker that allows him to shoot and get assists: he is versatile, he knows how to play very well on the pitch. Atalanta will not be deprived of him so easily: if Atalanta sell in the transfer market, they will only do so on one player.”
