Against Udinese, AC Milan looked superb in a new system; one with three defenders and freedom for the players that needed it most. However, that quickly came to an end against Atalanta.
There was a slight sense of optimism heading into the game last night, with some hoping that the new system could create the start of something better for Milan. However, La Dea quickly derailed those hopes with a very professional job of their own.
It is not a game for the history books, far from it. Ultimately, it was not a great game of football, but this is where the Nerazzurri deserve some credit.
As Quotidiano Sportivo write, the three-man defence was ‘convincing’ for an hour, and then it was quickly dismantled by Gian Piero Gasperini’s side – something which the Rossoneri were pre-warned about in the lead-up to the game.
Only one goal went past Mike Maignan, but it could and maybe should have been more, with the system quickly becoming tangled and ineffective.
In fact, the report states that the seriousness of this season’s faults have become more glaringly apparent; even with a new system, the players struggle heavily, and Atalanta broke through ‘like butter’.
Milan can not fall back on the fact that it was a team dreaming of the Scudetto, instead, it was just a well-oiled team, something which the Diavolo are light years away from.
Considering the fixture was a test for the summer, it is fair to say new parts need to be implemented if the system is to avoid being shelved.
Every formation is doomed to fail with this clown management and lack of interest from the players. No matter if it’s 3-4-3, 7-2-1 or 3-1-6 when the players don’t give a fck about the results.
Well, I only watched 10mins of the game in 1st half, and I was convinced that:
1. We had a high chance of losing the game.
2. Conceceao is no good for this Milan, as the team has not improved.
Afterwards I watched no more.
At a point the commentator mentioned my thoughts “the players are static…”
This team has capacity to play much better
Change this tactically inept coach and bring a more pragmatic coach. A Rainieri will do way better
No plans with the ball
Attack attack attack with out plan attack
Agree bro.. the players are static or staying with his position. No one make a room or ask the ball for make some through ball / make some shot on goal. The ball always round and round and backpass tp maignan / center back…
This was the second time the formation was used and the first time against good opposition, stick with it I say, we were going to lose to Atalanta regardless of formation, they simply play better right now
To be really good at something you have to be doing it for a long time. look at how long Insaghi’s system took to root in. Now they can play it with their eyes close.
Conceicao waited until April to implement a 3man Defense and now we’re expecting for it to be the answer for everything?
Ok kinda a stupid article, Milan were a lot more defensively solid. Once Conceicao started his subs every thing went to garbage. It would be silly to change formation again, just pick a style and go with it.
I put this loss 70% on the players and their absolute inability to finish a move, wasteful passing and becoming increasingly static as the game progressed. 30% on the coach for terrible substitutions and waiting until Milan were down to make a change.
Not to worry, it’s Ben Dixon again, seems not to have found a balance between his emotions and his writing, this often times gives a clouded and a completely biased writing style.
We are here criticising AC Milan for playing a 3 man defense, while praising Atalanta for killing it without also stating that the said Atalanta also played with a 3 man defense.
Regardless of the formation we played, Atalanta was favorite.
We played with a more solid defense. We only need mastery of the system and the right motivation to win matches.
Had Leao not let us down, we could have been 2 goals up before Atalanta eventually scored.
Let’s constantly bash our team of course, and give all credits to our opposition.
Extremely poorly written article I must say.
