Athletic: Musah snubs West Ham and Fulham with €20m Milan move imminent

AC Milan are closing in on the signing of Valencia midfielder Yunus Musah in a deal worth €20m, according to a report.

After previous sources stated the same, The Athletic confirm that Musah is close to joining Milan from Valencia for €20m after the 20-year-old had made it clear that he only wanted the Rossoneri.

Premier League clubs – including West Ham United and Fulham – came forward to express an interest in Musah but he is instead determined to partner up with his USMNT team-mate Christian Pulisic after he joined from Chelsea earlier this month.

The 20-year-old has an Italian passport meaning he would not take the last remaining non-EU registration slot for Milan this season. He made over 30 appearances for Valencia last season in what was another difficult LaLiga campaign for them.

He should soon become the eighth signing of the summer after Marco Sportiello, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Samuel Chukwueze, Tijiani Reijnders, Noah Okafor and Pulisic this summer.

      1. So first of all it was a loss and a tie, PKs only happen if a knock out round is tied, not “normal” games. And more importantly, IT”S FREAKING PRESEASON!
You’re worried because of games that don’t matter where there are 11-12 subs per team and the game ends with back ups and primavera players, get a grip.

      2. A narrow loss and a draw aren’t anything to panic about, especially since we didn’t have a full team in either game. Chill.

      3. Technically we drew against Juventus and lost only on penalties (with the c-squad / primaveras). Who gives a flying f*** about losing on penalties in a meaningless friendly?

      1. Will he? What I read was he MIGHT be back in n February and it’ll take at least a month for him to be able to play more than 15 minutes effectively.

    1. As the similarity goes, we should’ve picked one between him or RLC. Or even 2 out of 3 (him, RLC, and Tijani). As they all have the same favorite role, more experienced as a box to box role, and have this more natural attacking trait to support it.

Maybe Pioli would try to make his own Piolissimo again with fielding 3 box to box midfielders. Or he has the intention to mould Mudah with a more defensive DNA. Who knows. I’d myself prefer for a more traditional combative defensive midfield who can cover our first half as the part of the 3 mids.

  1. beginning to look like yonghong li overall back in the day…didn’t really workout for us the first time around. A few things have changed this time around…(1)Proven coach with consistency (Pioli) vs Rookie coach with ideas (Montella) (2) Decent core players with winning experience still in place (3) Serie A thanks to VAR has become less physical more open in general which makes for easier transition from other leagues

    1. Except it’s not. Our books are balanced, and we aren’t signing on the back of a high interest loan. The players signed now are qualitatively far better than what was signed in 2017. It’s not even a comparison.

There is spending money stupidly and randomly (2017 Yonghong Li), versus spending it smartly (what we’re seeing now).

      1. Kessi, Bonucci, Conti, Biglia, Andre Silva, Calhanoglu all decent signings at the time. The problems arose from 1) poor coaching 2) signing too many players unfamiliar with each other and having to play a new system. I am not saying this year is the same as 2017 but the number of signings are similar. I reading they might sign another 4-5 players after musah….

  2. Okay with this, at least 1 new outgoing will be confirmed : CDK or Krunic ? Adli was pretty positive isn’t part in next season.

    – Mezzala : Reijnders, CDK
    – Box-to-box : Loftus-Cheeks, Pobega, Musah
    – Regista : Krunic, Bennacer, Adli

Musah is an all-round midfielder that can even play as RW. He can play in any role in 3-men mid.
