Athletic: Thiaw could stay at Milan as Newcastle begin Guehi pursuit

In recent weeks, Newcastle United have been in pursuit of Malick Thiaw, but there is a chance that the German defender could remain at AC Milan after a new report has claimed the Magpies’ interest has changed.

Signing a new central defender is a heavily important thing for Newcastle, and this has been proven in their attempts to sign Fikayo Tomori and now Thiaw. However, the Milan duo are not the only two defenders the Geordies have pursued.

A report suggested that Thiaw was part of a list in recent weeks, rather than being an all-out target for the club. However, later reports have suggested that their pursuit of Thiaw was very much real, even if no bid has been presented so far.

Nevertheless, the interest may be all it turns out to be, as a report from The Athletic (via MilanNews24) has claimed that Newcastle are pursuing a move for Marc Guehi, and have made ‘initial contact’.

The English defender is seemingly valued at around €75 million by Crystal Palace, which is nearly double the amount that the Rossoneri are requesting for Thiaw, so if the English outfit chooses a move for Guehi instead, it is imagined a route to Thiaw would close.
