Several of AC Milan’s star players face an uncertain future going into the summer, and Rafael Leao is no exception to this.
This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) took stock of Leao’s situation, confirming that Atlético Madrid and Barcelona are interesting in signing him during the summer transfer window.
While the former Lille man has a better chance of staying than Mike Maignan and Theo Hernández, whose contracts with the Rossoneri expire in just over 12 months, which leads to a natural crossroads of sorts.
Leão’s bond with Milan is quite strong but his departure cannot be totally ruled out. It feels unlikely that the winger would depart for Saudi Arabia at this stage in his career, but Spain could be a more plausible option.
Milan, even without European football next season, remain a top-level club and Leão recently declared that he wants to continue playing at such high levels. However, Atléti and Barça, will play in the Champions League, and that has an appeal.
Leão has not yet lost his smile in Milan and despite the appreciation of Los Colchoneros and the Blaugrana, it seems unlikely that he will push to leave, especially for somewhere he might not even have a guaranteed starting spot like at Barca.
If Tare comes along, I can’t wait for the dressing down of players and the fallout from it. See what the likes of Theo and Leao are made of.
Can he preserve our core?
Here’s my question in all seriousness- Is there a core? Yes, there are talented players but there does not seem to be a core that stands up to adversity. I wonder if Giroud leaving was the last kick teammates in the butt leader.
There’s a core to build around. There are obvious gaps and there are no leaders in the field. But you have to owe your best players to build around. Not sell them.
Take the money quick get rid of him bloody lazy so and so done nothing for us this season and take Theo
With you.
