Atletico Madrid have opened talks with AC Milan over Theo Hernandez and have offered up a counterpart, according to reports.

It was a busy day on the transfer front for Milan on Tuesday, and one of the storylines revolved around Theo. After a transfer fee was reportedly agreed between Milan and Al-Hilal – worth around €35m – he rejected the idea of a move to Saudi Arabia, hoping instead to get a top European club.

Atletico in for Theo

During last night’s edition of ‘Calciomercato – L’Originale’ on Sky (via MilanNews), Gianluca Di Marzio gave an update on the battle that is brewing between Al-Hilal and Atletico Madrid for Theo.

“We left off on Theo on the agreement between Milan and Al-Hilal, the player is taking his time and hasn’t given a definitive yes yet because he’s actually hoping for Atletico Madrid.

“However, Atletico Madrid is certainly putting less money on the table than Al-Hilal and a counterpart in Molina, who played for Udinese. He’s more of a right-footer than a left-footer but he’s still a full-back.

“Milan are looking at him but the Rossoneri don’t want any counterparts, they’re not convinced they have any counterparts, they’d just like to do a financial operation with Theo Hernandez and then choose their replacement freely and independently.

“We’re recording this situation and we’ll see if Simone Inzaghi will be able to convince Theo Hernandez to accept Al-Hilal.”

As a reminder, Milan were actually linked with Molina back in 2021 when he apparently impressed Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara during a performance for Udinese. A lot has changed since then however.

  1. Give him to Atletico Madrid.
Théo isn’t going to accept Al-Hilal’s offer, so if we don’t sell him this summer, we will lose him for free the next one, so might as well take even 10-15M€ out of him and close this chapter.

    1. Or we keep him for the year, he goes for free but he helps us towards a European place that would be worth much more.

I believe he can have a good season on a summer’s rest with full motivation.

        1. He will not go to Arabia, he will not go to Como, and there are no offers from big European clubs. Not even Atletico, who paid Callagher 40 million, believe that they need Theo that much. Therefore, you either go where they want you or you go to the stands until June 2026. We are fed up with the humiliation of Chalhanoglu, Donnarum and Kessie.

      1. Like he helped Milan this season towards a European place, or staying in a European competition?

  2. Buddy needs to face reality. Milan want to cash in on a lazy player. He’s not just gonna get to easily walk to whatever club he wants if they don’t wanna pay. Take the money in Saudi, or deal with maybe not getting your transfer

  3. If he doesn’t leave or sign sit him for the whole year and let him find out if he makes the French team.
