Atletico Madrid director confirms Milan want defender and ‘satisfy conditions’

AC Milan appear to remain in the running to sign Caglar Soyuncu as Atletico Madrid’s sporting director has confirmed that the club are willing to satisfy their conditions.

The management want to give Pioli another central defender after Matteo Gabbia’s early return and they are looking to England after their attempts to sign Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno did not get very far.

It was reported by Sky two days ago that an attempt was also made for Soyuncu, who was also sought by Roma, but they claimed he has chosen to go to join up with Rade Krunic, Leonardo Bonucci and Edin Dzeko’s Fenerbahce.

According to Doruk Tecimer who works for TRT Spor, Atletico Madrid’s sporting director Andrea Berta spoke regarding Soyuncu and not only denied that a move to Fenerbahce is close but also mentioned Milan.

“Milan and Porto meet the conditions we want for Caglar Soyuncu. We can reach an agreement with them. Fenerbahçe is not an option for us in the current conditions,” he said (via The Milan Zone).

Soyuncu left Leicester City last summer after half a decade there and joined Atletico Madrid on a four-year deal, but he has so far made just eight appearances across all competitions for his new club.
