SM: Ballo-Toure’s time at Milan likely to be over after one season – the situation

Fode Ballo-Touré is heading towards being sold at the end of the season as the Milan management continue to make assessments on the squad ahead of 2022-23.

The full-back department was recently bolstered by the renewal of Theo Hernandez which is a good starting point, but Maldini and Massara have to make important decisions also at the exit front. Ballo-Touré simply has not convinced Pioli and could soon say goodbye to Milan.

The Senegal international has had some disappointing performances, especially the one in the first derby of the season and against Bologna, so even though he only arrived last summer the confidence is low and Pioli would rather play Florenzi on his less preferred side when Theo is not available.

Towards the exit door

A return to France appears to be the most likely solution. Maldini would also be satisfied with a few million euros, with which he would then go and buy Florenzi from Roma on a permanent deal. The alternative would be loan, but with an obligation to buy set for summer 2023.

The 25-year-old has made 9 appearances in Serie A and 2 in the Champions League this season, nearly all being as a substitute. Transfermarkt indicate a market value that is around €5m, roughly the same amount paid by Milan to Monaco last summer.

In Italy, a timid interest was shown by Bologna and Salernitana, with the latter however could obviously only make a concrete attempt if they stay in Serie A and avoid the drop.
