Franco Baresi believes that AC Milan fans can look forward to their team showing how much they have grown both domestically and in the Champions League.
Baresi spent his entire 20-year career with Serie A club Milan, captaining the club for 15 seasons, being regarded as one of the greatest defenders of all-time. With Milan, he won three UEFA Champions League titles, six Scudetti, four Supercoppa Italiana trophies, two European Super Cups and two Intercontinental Cups. Simply put, when he talks we listen.
Baresi was interviewed by Sky Italia and talked about the current Milan and the difference compared that of a few seasons ago, when the team often hovered around the Europa League positions and even finished as low as mid-table.
“This team has grown exponentially, especially in the last two years. All players are aware of their own means and are convinced that they can play with everyone, both in Italy and in Europe,” he said (via MilanLive).
Last year the Rossoneri secured a second-placed finish in the standings which not only marked their best league placement since 2011-12 but also meant that an illusive return to the Champions League had finally been achieved.
Baresi is convinced that this Milan side and the players who make up the core of the squad will make fans have fun and enjoy watching them play.
“Last season we had an excellent season, and the time has come to measure ourselves also in the European context against the most famous clubs at the moment. We are hungry and willing to prove who we are.”
