Davide Bartesaghi has admitted that he feels more confident than he did a few months ago, which he hopes will help his form for club and country.
Along with his coach Baldini, Bartesaghi spoke at a press conference conducted at the Italy U21 national team training camp. The team are playing for access to the next European Championship and will face North Macedonia tomorrow at 18:15 CET, at the Castellani stadium in Empoli.
Having come through the various youth national teams and now having the status of being a regular at a top club like Milan, Bartesaghi has become one of the elder statesmen and leaders within the squad. His words were relayed by TMW.
This season has seen you take big steps forward with Milan and the Azzurini…
“Wearing the shirts of Milan and Italy is a huge responsibility. I try to make myself available to the team. I can play as a full-back in a back four, or as a ‘supporting midfielder’ in a back three, but I try to be as versatile as possible.”
Are there similarities between Massimiliano Allegri and Baldini?
“We’ve trained well these past few days, I feel more confident and experienced than at the first training camp in September. We’re a strong, confident team.
“Baldini, like Allegri at Milan, always asks me to stay positive, even when things aren’t going well, to give my all, especially in difficult moments, because that’s when the person you are really comes out.”
It was reported last month that the head coach of the senior national team Gennaro Gattuso is keeping a close eye on the progress that Bartesaghi is making, suggesting that a full Italy debut is not a million miles away.
