Davide Bartesaghi was noticeably disappointing when AC Milan played Juventus last night. However, there was a reason for this.
Despite being a youngster, Bartesaghi has played with a lot of maturity this season. When first called upon, he took his place with ease and has been solid for most of the year, though, he has had his moments of poor quality.
At San Siro last night, he struggled more than he ever has. Francisco Conceicao and Jonathan David targeted him for large parts of the first half and he was substituted at half-time.
Whilst it could’ve been down to his performance, or even the fact that he picked up a yellow card, reports are suggesting there was a different reason.
Bartesaghi suffered with muscle strain
As MilanNews relays from DAZN, the Italian was not fully fit, due to his struggling with a muscle strain. So, he was substituted early with it clearly having an effect on his performance. He was certainly struggling, so it was the right decision from Massimiliano Allegri, or was it?
It is important to remember that Pervis Estupinan was initially expected to start on Sunday night and he probably should’ve in hindsight. Bartesaghi was clearly not at his best and it was almost costly…

Isn’t this muscle strain named “Francisco Conceição” ?
I love Bart but that’s funny 🤣 👏
Good one.
Just to confirm the game ended 0:0???
There you go.
The sharks are circling.
He’s far too much of a Milanista to be liked around here.
Sharks 🤣. Mate you need to get offline, this site is wrecking your head.
When you support a football club, or indeed anything else that feels intrinsically part of you – a political party or a religious denomination – you have to be able to laugh at it.
Bartesaghi has been an absolute joy this season, I could not be more behind the kid! In fact one of my biggest fears for the summer is that we sell Estupinan and sign someone who Allegri immediately puts in front of Bartesaghi – I really don’t want that.
Yesterday, a very, very talented attacker made him look silly a couple of times. The incidents that stand out to me feel more down to not reading the ball well more than a physical discrepancy, albeit the mind affects the body and vice versa.
There a 6-8 key things through the season that stand out in my mind that all come back to situational awareness, but this is versus a long list of things that point to a kid with bags of genuine potential who’s already proving his worth. He would be a very rare breed if at 20 there weren’t still gaps in his game.
A bad day at the office for the young man that it turns out was exacerbated by a muscle strain, but as you rightly said, it didn’t cost us and that’s why we can LAUGH about it.
