AC Milan’s Primavera side suffered the first defeat of their UEFA Youth League campaign as they were beaten 3-1 away from home against Bayer Leverkusen.
Having drawn 0-0 against Liverpool at home two weeks ago, the feeling was positive going into the game in Germany for Federico Guidi’s side, and he named some experienced players for the level including Adam Bakoune, Mattia Liberali, Dariusz Stalmach, Alessandro Bonomi and Diego Sia.
However, Milan fell to a 3-1 defeat in a game where they had the better of the chances and deserved a lot more. They paid for a poor start to the game defensively, with Onyeka firing in the opener after a turnover inside the Milan half then Alajbegovic doubling the lead.
Leverkusen had scored with their first two shots on target all while Milan wasted chances through Sia and Bonomi, but the latter did score in the 70th minute to rekindle the Rossoneri’s hopes of getting a result.
Guidi’s side pushed and pushed in the final minutes and had a chance to get level through Scotti, but a break deep into added time allowed Stepanov to score the goal that sealed a 3-1 win for the home side, who had only four shots all game.
