Bayern Munich defender sends a signal to Milan and Giroud: “I would love to play with him”

Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard has sent a strong signal to AC Milan by claiming that he wants to play alongside his compatriot Olivier Giroud at club level.

Pavard  is preparing for the World Cup in Qatar with France, hoping to repeat the success of four years ago when they lifted the trophy after beating Croatia in the final in Russia, with the wing-back expected to start under Didier Deschamps this time around too.

In the meantime, however, the 26-year-old is also thinking about his future given that his contract expires in June 2024 and the hypothesis of a move to Serie A has been floated in recent weeks given many of team-mates are already playing Italy, including his friend Giroud in particular.

During an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pavard was asked about his future and seemed to suggest that he is open to a move, also casting a line towards Milan with an admission about the idea of uniting with Giroud.

“I have been playing in Germany for seven years now. I still have many friends in Stuttgart. I won everything with Bayern Munich. I play to win and I am available to evaluate new interesting projects, but as a central defender,” he said (via MilanNews).

“Is Giroud trying to convince me to move to Milan (laughs)?. Olivier always tells me that Italy is a country that lives in one hundred percent football. He told me about the magic of derbies, the great celebration of the fans for the Scudetto. I would love to play with him also because he is a great friend. We’ll see.”

The former Stuttgart defender is therefore not closing the door, on the contrary he is intrigued by a possible future in Italy.

“Winning is never easy, but Serie A is very interesting not only for a defender like me, but also because it is a lot more open, as friends Giroud, Theo Hernandez and Rabiot tell me. Just look at the continuous duel between Napoli and Milan, and with Inter who were not easy to face in the Champions League, which Perisic also talked about at the time. Juventus today are undergoing reconstruction, it will soon return to its levels also in Europe.”
