Bennacer discusses ‘lesson’ Milan learned and jokes about goal: “I shoot ten times and score only once”

By Oliver Fisher -

Ismael Bennacer joked that he only scores once for every 10 times he shoots as he was AC Milan’s hero on the night in the 4-2 win over Bologna.

It looked like it would be plane sailing for Milan as they took a two-goal lead into the break thanks to goals from Rafael Leao and Davide Calabria, which was also boosted by the fact the home side received a red card for a last-man challenge.

However the home side roared back and levelled the game with two quickfire goals early in the second half. The first was a Zlatan Ibrahimovic own-goal and the equalise came from Barrow, but a second red was shown to the Rossoblu after a nasty stamp.

That gave the Rossoneri the boost they needed as Bennacer netted inside the final ten minutes to finally break through a resolute defence, and Ibrahimovic added some gloss with a late curling strike.

Bennacer was interviewed by DAZN at the end of the game and began by reflecting on his decisive goal, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews and translated below.

On the goal: “I shoot ten times and score only once (laughs). I didn’t think, I shot and took it well. It’s a goal that counts, I’m happy. It has to be well coordinated, and then you have to take it well and leave the foot well. I don’t know how to explain it well, but it’s something you just do.”

On the game: “It took us some time to get into the game in the second half. Then they got the second red and we started playing again. They are a good team, good for us they had nine. The important thing was the victory, the two goals we let in will serve as a lesson for the next matches.”

On the team’s character: “Of course, then we are all together. We never want to lose or break even. We always try to win games.”
