Bennacer discusses Milan’s Scudetto fight and reveals he ‘missed the pitch and the ball a lot’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer has revealed that he is itching to get back as he has ‘missed the pitch’ while he was out injured.

The Rossoneri have had to battle losing several of their key performers already along the way this season but have proved they have a squad and a game system better than most thought.

However, nobody is doubting how crucial the return of Bennacer will be. The Algerian made his return to the field Bologna, coming off the bench after almost two months of absence, and is now ready to take back a spot in the starting XI.

Bennacer played for half an hour at the Renato dall’Ara despite having been out for so long, and against Crotone he is reportedly very likely to start from the beginning alongside Frank Kessié, his usual partner in the middle of the field.

Bennacer was interviewed by Sky Italia in view of Sunday’s match against Crotone, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews.

On the long absence: “I missed the pitch and the ball a lot. The team did very well, the team is like that, even if there are some players missing. Now I have to give everything as they are doing.”

On the Scudetto race: “When you are first you have to think about the Scudetto, but there are still many games to go. We only think about the next one, we focus game by game. We have not talked about the Scudetto.”

On the derby: “Whatever the opponent is, we will do everything to win, each game is worth three points. We will think about the derby when the time comes.”
