Ismael Bennacer feels like he is getting back to his best after he had his first goal involvement since returning during the win over Girona.
While it was far from a vintage performance, the 1-0 victory against Girona resulted in Milan climbing into the top eight places in the Champions League for the first time. In fact, they are now sixth and would seal direct qualification for the last 16 with a win in their last game.
With 37 minutes on the clock, Milan got the goal that their pressure had suggested was coming. The creation of the goal all came from Bennacer, who initiated a counter-press and won the ball back in midfield, sliding the Portuguese winger through and he finished with power.
The Algerian spoke to Milan TV after the full-time whistle to offer his assessment of what was a hard-fought win and most pleasingly a first clean sheet under Sergio Conceicao. MilanNews relayed his comments.
You got the assist for Leao…
“I’m happy to have done something that helps the team. Rafa did well. Assists, goals, recovering the ball: it’s my job.”
How are you feeling physically?
“I feel very good, I’m working very hard to be at the top, even better than before. It’s not easy to come back after months of injury, but it’s part of the job. Little by little I’m getting back to 100%.”
It felt like a real team victory…
“Without a group you go nowhere. And it is with this that we move forward, with this spirit that we win. We know that without the collective there is no individuality”.
Best display he’s had in a while, nice to see the best of isma again
Well done Sir you should be proud of yourself, not easy to fightback from serious injury
keep going my brother. well done
He played well, but both he and Calabria look good against lesser competition. Girona is not good at all.
We really need a fit Isma for this second half of the season. Fofana and Reijnders look gassed and they need to rest up.
Will be nice if RLC can get fit and help with rotations too although he is not some one I can rely on fitness wise or to put in good performances 😐
Bennacer having one (1) good game against the mighty Girona shouldn’t be used as an excuse NOT to purchase a midfielder or 2 this winter.
Also with him, you always feel it’s only a matter of time before he gets injured again (wether with us or with Algeria where he has sometimes to play in horrible pitches)
