Bennacer insists Milan can knock out Juventus; shares thoughts on new formation

By Isak Möller -

In an interview with the club’s official TV channel, MilanTV, Ismael Bennacer spoke about his first year with AC Milan. Furthermore, he also commented on the Rossoneri’s positive start to the year (via MilanNews.it).

During his first season with the club, the midfielder has displayed his impressive work-rate, refusing to give up even in the final stages of the game. When asked about the matter, Bennacer was happy to hear that it was evident.

“I give everything on the pitch? Yes, if this is how you feel I’m happy, because I have worked with my heart. I really do it for the team so I feel pleasure.

“San Siro atmosphere? It’s true that when I play I don’t hear what they sing. But of course, when I recover the ball and I hear the fans screaming, it helps me a lot on the pitch.

“My growth? Now I know the team better and I have a little more confidence from the manager. I’m learning and I’m growing. I’m doing better and better,” he began.

The first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final against Juventus ended 1-1, which puts Bennacer and his teammates in a tough position to advance. Furthermore, Castillejo, Ibrahimovic and Hernandez will be suspended for the game.

“We played a good game but we didn’t win. We have our heads held high, we play for one of the biggest clubs. We must never give up.

“The return? We have to believe it otherwise we are not competitive. Maybe it will even be better to win in Turin without our important players. Juve are a great team but not impossible to beat,” he continued.

Before the derby, Pioli decided to switch the formation to a 4-2-3-1, instead of the 4-4-2. This has turned out to be a great decision, as the Rossoneri really have thrived with the new system. Bennacer and Kessie have certainly done well as the midfield duo.

“The new formation? We are doing better than in 2019. Kessie and I are trying to do well. The midfield is the most important part of a game.

“My first goal? At San Siro, it will be a dream, but I play a lot for the team. I don’t think about scoring, I always try to do well. I have to do as much as possible to help the team.

“Torino? We play on Monday, so we have to recover well. We have to be ready for this important game,” he concluded.
