Bennacer says Milan ‘showed good spirit’ and emphasises the need for unity

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer has praised the positive spirit that the Rossoneri showed to come from behind and win against Frosinone on Saturday night in Serie A.

Speaking to DAZN after the victory (via Milan News), the Algerian midfielder explained how this Milan team needs to have unity and spirit if they are going to continue improving and start putting some pressure on Inter and Juventus at the top.

Milan found themselves 2-1 down against Frosinone in the second half and they were playing poorly. Matteo Gabbia scored to make it 2-2, and then Bennacer played a part in the winning goal by playing the cross that was eventually converted by Luka Jovic.

Asked about the hunger of the group to win, Bennacer said: “We showed good spirit, we didn’t give up until the end. It gives us confidence in our journey.”

He was also asked about how special this particular group of players is, and he responded: “To be united on the pitch we must also be united off the pitch. Having dinner and being out together is good for us. We wanted the win.”

Bennacer has had an unusual season as he has missed almost all of it whilst recovering from a serious knee injury. He briefly returned for Milan before heading to the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria where he was not fit enough to feature heavily before they were knocked out.

Asked how he is feeling now, Bennacer said: “Well, I’m happy to be here with the team. I want to help however I can, I’m hungry. I hope to help the team.”

On whether he would be watching Inter vs Juventus on Sunday, he said: “I’ll watch it like a normal match. We always want to win, tomorrow’s result doesn’t change anything. We will always have the same spirit and desire.”
