Bennacer: “When I saw the team playing I wanted to be there to help everyone” – video

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer has revealed that he ‘wanted to be there to help everyone’ while he was sat out injured.

The return of the Algerian will no doubt be crucial as he has been out since mid-December with a muscle injury. He came back onto the field against Bologna, coming off the bench after almost two months of absence, and is now ready to take back a spot in the starting XI on Sunday.

Bennacer was interviewed by Milan TV and talked about recovering from the injury and the team’s performance, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews and translated below.

On the absence: “When I saw the team playing I wanted to be there to help everyone, but it’s part of the sport, of this job. You had to manage this type of injury well. My wife helped me a lot.”

On some difficulties of the team without him: “We are a team, if there are or are not there is the same thing. If the team loses, I lose too.”

On receiving the award for the best North African Player of 2020: “When you get an award you want another one, I have to do everything to try to improve even more.”

On the work in recent months: “I worked hard to get back to the top, touching the ball is an emotion I haven’t felt for a long time.”

On the current moment: “We have to be even more focused, do things even better, we’re doing it.”

On Kessie: “He is never tired, he has incredible energy. We have to take advantage of that.”

On the new players: “We are a family, when someone arrives we have to do everything to make him feel good.”

On the match against Crotone: “The season is very hard, every match is difficult. We are Milan and we must give everything to try to win it.”
